An Advice Required AAR.

Here is where I'm at so far in my three phase plan to uphold the honor of the confederacy.

1 - send game starting email to jutland13

2 - ?

3 - PROFIT!


JULY,1861

Hostilities in the Viginias
Charleston falls to JP Hatch, Rosecrans overruns Franklin cutting off Garnett's lone infantry division in Grafton. Garnett is injured in the following battle there and all of W.Viginia is in Union hands after Lil'Mac's minor victory. Two infantry divisions and some dozen militia units pour into Manassas from DC under Gen.McDowell's command. Only one third of the green troops had the stomach for battle however, and then most of the contents of their stomachs are spilled all over the battlefield! The Union beats a hasty retreat but saves some political face even in defeat. Gen.McDowell loses some credibility with his troops aswell.

Makes me think Jutland13 might consider pushing forces across the mountains instead of from the coast? This should be harder to do, yes?

In the West
Springfield is taken and Union soldiers billet on Evergreen terrace after the easy victory there. I activate Hardee, Lovell and Van Dorn to account for Grant and Halleck(AC).

I move troops along the Kentucky boarder but I wonder how much I should leave along the Gulf coast? Just how valuable are places like Austin or St.Petersburg in the early going? Should I hold back some troops and leaders or just worry about getting as much to the north as soon as possible?

AUGUST, 1861

In the east, Gen.McDowell, looking to redeem himself leads a 12,000 man invasion of Wilmington. 5 militia and 1 infantry with arty support land and assault the yet to be upgraded defences. 4000 militia are rushed in from the north and another 12,000 more are mobilized and easily repulse the attack.

even with 6 admin, it costs over 40 supply to upgrade this fort to level two. Is it worth it?

In the west I had initiative to go into to kentucky but choose to wait, I assume Jutland13 will enter next month?

SEPTEMBER, 1861

Yet another incursion from the sea this month, this time in Florida.

I'm a little surprised and somewhat relieved that the Union retreated here. The supply spent upgrading the fort proves worthwhile. Not happy with the damaged infantry unit, this was achieved by fire from a union gunboat no less. That same Union gunboat gained a star in the process.




In The West
My heart sank a little as the Confederate Army sat on its thumbs in Humbolt this month, no initative other than a few militia units. Nowhere near enough to overrun the advance cavalry unit that captured Paducah in the Union invasion of Kentucky. Lexington and Louisville fall also. I'm able to move into Bowling Green, Glascow and London and prepare forts but being unable to move to the river in western Kentucy is dissapointing.

September cont'

All quite in Virginia this month other than a few cavalry operations, and I await the storm coming in the west. One more turn till its gets cold, I hope to be holding at Humbolt and the rest of Southern Kentucky when the snow flies next month.

I did have initiative to move into W.Virginia with a strong force to take back Franklin, I destroyed rail in Harpers Ferry first, but something stayed my hand here. Is it worth it to go back into W.Virginia in the early going? It seemed I could still put enough men into the north if Jutland13 attacks next turn, but would have had to draw from my coastal defense and the west.

OCTOBER, 1861

In The East

An all out assault on Confederate positions from the North! 12,000 brave Union soldiers fall in Manassas to 3200 CSA souls. Lil'Mac losses some face and PTB saves his. But the bad news comes from Fredricksburg, in a brave flanking manouver, Union soldiers land from the bay and try and create a beachhead. They are quickly repulsed and sent back to their boats but not before killing TJ Jackson[sm=00000030.gif]

Even with favorable body counts and retreats this is most worrisome for the future.


In The West

It gets worse! The success on the coast comes at a cost, not moving more than 1 heavy artilery into Humbolt has caused great panic and what we can only hope is the temporary occupation of Memphis by the Yankees! Both Humbolt and Memphis are assaulted and each has its guns damaged. With 22 transports pushing down the Missisippi I estimated some 10 or 11 units have entered Memphis!!! with a pinning attack at Humbolt I'm still able to scramble some 8 or so units back to try and save it. I figured 14 ground units should be enough. I was wrong.

Going into November I can only hope we can push the Union back.

I scramble an attack force to edit: Memphis (sttoopid geography class) and reinforce Humbolt, luckily more heavy guns are bring delivered next month.

Question, I've placed two heavy guns back in Humbolt, if I can cause the retreat in Memphis and still hold Humbolt what happens to the retreating Union forces in regard to op fire?

NOVEMBER, 1861

In The West
A collective sigh of relief as Memphis (or as I like to call it New Orleans) is resecured this month. Two Union transports are damaged and more heavy art is brought in as Gen.Pemberton assumes command of the heavy guns in Humbolt to try and avoid this happening again.

Gen.Grant now sits poised in Paducah, I can only hope the winter slows him down. He is already AC there and I think Jutland13 may have issued a promotion as his command rating is already 14.


In The East
A tough lesson in winter reation movement is learned. Wilmington is invaded with 20,000 men and I fall short 1 territory for the reinforcements. My biggest port is now in Union hands[8|]. Jutland landed at Bern too, and he is consistenly attacking multiple locations in order to slow my reaction. This worked out well for him this turn.

Question. How tough is regaining Wilmington going to be? is it even possible if he reinforces and builds up the fort next turn?

Man, that hurts early in the game. Probably best just to seal it off and let it go. With a prize as valuable as Wilmington he's probably already got the heavy artillery boxed up in a Northern port waiting to be shipped to their new home in North Carolina. It's ideal defensive terrain (swamp) to boot.
