You certainly get free patches! [:)]

Mr. Z -> RE: When? (2/11/2009 7:02:06 PM)

quote:

MrZ did most of the new research this time around, so he might have further recommendations, particularly on the social and economic side of things. For OOBs I know he used many of the papers in the Nafziger Collection:
http://home.fuse.net/nafziger/

I will add a couple, sure.

As a general introduction to the flavor of the period, a good books is Frederick Kagan's The End of the Old Order (Kagan is the son of Donald and the brother of Robert, and helped design the "surge" strategy in Iraq fwiw)

http://www.amazon.com/End-Old-Order-Napoleon-1801-1805/dp/0306811375

http://books.google.com/books?id=XZdjTr7DCcgC&dq=kagan+napoleon&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=kIxImZ-oRp&sig=m5X2BnRfcYFI5J1z239PJUmOgrw&hl=en&ei=Ax6TSb3xDpC8MuetnfsL&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result#PPA129,M1

Also good is David Bell's The First Total War:

http://www.amazon.com/End-Old-Order-Napoleon-1801-1805/dp/0306811375

If you want even more specific detail, Nafziger is actually a published author--he wrote one of the definitive histories of the invasion of Russia (out of print, and as you can see from the price it is a highly-valued volume!)

http://www.amazon.com/Napoleons-Invasion-Russia-George-Nafziger/dp/0882546813/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234377560&sr=1-3

Another rather good account of the Russian invasion is Richard Riehn's 1812: Napoleon's Russian Campaign.

http://www.amazon.com/1812-Napoleons-Campaign-Richard-Riehn/dp/0471543020

This next one is considered a classic, though I have not read it--it is actually a memoir by one of Napoleon's aide-de-camps:

http://www.amazon.com/Defeat-Napoleons-Russian-Campaign-Classics/dp/1590172825

For the Spanish campaigns, there is The Spanish Ulcer:

http://www.amazon.com/Spanish-Ulcer-History-Peninsular-War/dp/0306810832

Finally, of course, Tolstoy will give you plenty of flavor:

http://www.amazon.com/War-Peace-Leo-Tolstoy/dp/0307266931

As will Stendhal:

http://www.amazon.com/Charterhouse-Parma-Modern-Library-Classics/dp/0679783180

And, in her own way, Austen:

http://www.amazon.com/Persuasion-Penguin-Classics-Jane-Austen/dp/0141439688

Do not assume that I have completed reading all of the above novels, however ;)

You think this game will need patches ?? I thought it would be perfect on release. We don't need no stinking patches.

Hard Sarge -> RE: When? (2/12/2009 1:56:02 AM)

not to be smart, but everything will need some kind of patch, your computer is not the computer I use, so things can be different on one then on another

as a tester, we try to do and check everything, but nothing says, the players are going to do everything the same way we do

there may be simple things we don't see, or there may be complex things that we never tried

and I have to say, Eric is one of the best, at reacting to anything we find that we think is wrong

Gil R. -> RE: When? (2/12/2009 3:16:39 AM)

Hard Sarge, I think Johnnie was making a "We don't need no steenkin' badges" reference.

Hey! It turns out that that quote has a Wikipedia page! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinking_badges

TheOx -> RE: When? (2/16/2009 5:28:27 AM)

Still no news on release?

Kingmaker -> RE: When? (2/16/2009 10:58:09 AM)

HiHi

Anyone know if CoG EE can be pre-ordered?

I would hate to miss the release date by a few hours and find all those Goodfolk over the Pond had snaffled all the initial release.[X(]

All the Best
Peter

We should have a projected release date (somewhere in Gil's range, between end of February and early March) for you guys by the end of the week, with any luck.

this not quite giving you the info you need?

No pre-order available Pete. I think those of us on this side of the pond won't grab all the bandwidth! Chances are, we will be asleep during the release!

Upside is, that transfer rates for us are higher past 03.00 PST. [:D]

HiHi

SoM, Lutzow,

Looks like a sleepless night then come release date [8|]

All the Best
Peter

Gil R. -> RE: When? (2/17/2009 6:41:58 PM)

Can't give you that date just yet. We're waiting for confirmation that the manual is good to go. Then the clock really starts.

Steely Glint -> RE: When? (2/20/2009 5:31:36 AM)

I'm sure looking forward to the release.

You should be in the World in Flames crowd. [:D] [:D] [:D]

CWIF (computer WIF) beta came out in 1996 or so. [>:] The Matrix version is supposed to be out mid-year.

Have some patience, young paduwan...[:-]

I'll be the hated guy here, but definitely take your time to get it right. Patches are good [sm=00000289.gif], but unplayable games while waiting for patches are not ... [sm=00000023.gif] I'll wait. [:'(]

The game is in pretty good shape, but it looks like there are still one or two kinks to work out. Here's one I discovered tonight. (I never knew that the British navy's secret weapon was seahorses. Makes the U.S. Navy's dolphin program look quite backwards...)

Gil R. -> RE: When? (2/20/2009 6:10:53 PM)

No date has been set, but we're very close. We're about to test a new build that could become the gold version, unless a new bug or OOB problem is found. Stay tuned...

hadberz -> RE: When? (2/21/2009 1:59:57 AM)

I hope soon, I don't mind a bug or two. I just realized I don't have any Napoleonic wars wargames, I guess Age of Rifles would be the closest one I have. :)

cdbeck -> RE: When? (2/21/2009 11:59:52 AM)

Dang Seahorses, blocking our release!

SoM

MorningDew -> RE: When? (2/21/2009 5:02:23 PM)

This is one of two games I am anxiously waiting to be released. Looks amazing.
