Still learning the game, and I'm enjoying it a lot. Why China over a separated UK from US? Yes, this it is the same setup as Axis and Allies, but it seems to flow better and allow for five to truly play. I'm sure there's reasoning to AWD's set up, so I'm just curious.

It is a common question. As you get into the mechanics I think you'll come to understand.

Basically, a game Player (Germany, Japan, USSR, China, WA) can be considered a united coalition sharing technology and a chain of command. Shortly after the US entered the war, command was essentially unified between the UK, it's dependencies, and USA. Rivalries may have existed, as they could in any command structure, but objectives were jointly agreed and there was one supreme commander for a theater.

Look at the nation divisions in the game Players and you will see that this kind of coordination clearly did not exist between nations that are in distinct game Players.

BTW, this is not a 5 player game. It is a 2, 3 or 4 player game. Noone will want to play China by itself. But it can be conveniently played by either the Soviet or the WA player.
