Ironclad -> RE: The Imperial War Museum London (2/2/2009 9:28:06 PM)

The guns are the famous 15", the finest naval gun Britain ever produced. They entered service with the Queen Elizabeth class, and armed many others not least the Hood and our last battleship - the superb Vanguard. The latter was built using the turrets taken from the light battle cruisers when they were converted to carriers.

JudgeDredd -> RE: The Imperial War Museum London (2/2/2009 9:30:30 PM)

Human madness...why?

There was a Holocaust exhibition when we went. It was ghostly, touching and ruthless. It played haunting stories throughout and showed excerpts from various sources. Brought tears to my eyes. I spent over an hour in that section alone!

Very well done, Ironclad. Now you have wrote this, I remember that's pretty much what the sign said. I distinctly remember the Vanguard and Hood being mentioned in the plaque.

The other thing about those naval guns, they are pointing at or near to, Captain Bligh's house which is almost directly across the road.

It is now 201 years since his second mutiny.........

Wow JD, that's some post mate. Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate it. I'd dearly love to visit the museum one day, it must be an amazing experience.

Those last few pictures were hard to look at though. I must have got some dust in my eyes. [:(]

Thanks,
Jim

Eastern -> RE: The Imperial War Museum London (2/2/2009 10:08:43 PM)

I am amazed about your War museum , very nice collection. In Brussels, Belgium we have also a War museum but this is nearly a junkyard.

Mobeer -> RE: The Imperial War Museum London (2/2/2009 10:32:18 PM)

I think they miss a trick in not comparing the tanks on display - there's an interesting range available so why not compare the angle of the armour on the Churchill and T34, or the T34 and Jagdpather gun barrel lengths.

Nice pictures, even though you did almost hide the most beautiful plane (Volkesjager) from view.

edit: I believe the grant is Montgomery's command tank, and the gun is a fake to provide more space inside.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: The Imperial War Museum London (2/2/2009 10:42:55 PM)

Nice photos.  They really hit home with the hardware and the Humanity.[:(]

I now remember reading that the gun was a fake to allow extra room inside [&o]
