OK, one more try. B-18s parked next to hanger 13 on Deceber 17, 1941.

As everyone is in exactly the same position, I'd say it was the same shot as Brady's, though his is sharper.

Bit of an ugly aircraft the B-18.

It truly is. One would have a hard time beliving that it decended from a DC-2.

It is an ugly beast.  The lineage is clearly visible in the tail.  The wings are the same as a DC-2 also. 

I wonder if the ugliness contributed to its failure as a bomber.

IIRC the B-18 and B-17 were tested against each other, but the B-17 crashed on takeoff, which didn't do much to make a good impression. So I might take the Bolo's failure the other way around - adopted in 1936 (in the middle of the Depression), it was selected because it was cheaper than the Fort and "there ain't gonna be no war." The DC-2 was a reliable airframe, and it was really the war effort that drove advances in aeronautics.

Just my 2 cents.
