frank1970 -> software to boot from memory stick (2/18/2009 8:36:39 PM)

Gentlemen,

someone once posted some link to a software which would enable me to run my OS on a memorystick. Does someone know who that was and could give me the link, please?

Thanks a lot

Frank

I don't know about any previous thread, but I have used "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Version" as available here:
http://www.bootdisk.com/plan40/hpflash1.zip

This only makes a bootable USB drive - putting the operating system onto the drive is another step.

Hmm...most modern BIOS's allow you to do this already.

Yeah - the software is called Mojopac - available as a free download... i got it to work on my machines (pleural) just fine until a virus destroyed the install...

You can download the free version here:

http://www.mojopac.com/download.html

EDIT - once you install Mojopac to the USB device (which can be a memory stick or external HD), the software allows you to "boot" to the device... you then have to install WITP (or any other programs you care to use). It took me several HOURS to install WITP (very slow as i didn't optimize the memory stick first)... once installed it worked great. [8D]

I never had the need to personally install and run my OS from USB Flash memory stick except for alreay made products like SLAX Linux distribution which I do use:

http://www.slax.org

I also use the "GRUB4DOS" and "USB Format" utilities to create bootable CD for USB Flash memory stick (some laptops / noteboos are without CD/DVD drive and I have to "emulate" the CD/DVD with it)... for example I use the "Hiren's Boot CD" on one USB Flash Memory stick (that is great utility CD! [:)])...
