im just starting out as well as most of u know. and for purley research purposes i know its all subjective and dependant on your playing style. but in your expeert opnions:

What is the best way to spend 6000 points as either the Americans or Germans, want a well rounded force, which can do minefiels and overcome most problems.

i knowits a tall order but i know uwont let me down.

Mango, that depends alot of what kind of mission you have, and what time period it is.

I'd go for a company of Panzers, a company or two of rifle infantry (resist the urge to by mechas - they're not worth it if you don't need to assault at breakneck speed) and a couple of engineers. Trade one rifle company for an engineer company if you feel you can afford it. With this you have a pretty solid (albeit small if you're facing russians  ) core, the rest can be added according to taste. Make sure to include some tank killers - AT's, PAK's, StuG's etc. Be sure to look closely at AT/PAK penetration values when buying. A 105mm PAK doesn't pack near the punch of a 75mm! For me, Tigers are very mobile PAK guns in a tracked bunker. So you might opt for a Tiger/Wolverine section instead of an AT platoon.

If you think you'll be facing alot of infantry, support tanks, flame tanks, quad AA's and howitzers might come in handy.

Artillery is important. It's a fine choice between onboard and offboard for some units. Offboard are safe and sound (except for counter-artillery fire), but are likely to be out of contact a lot. Onboard are fast in response, but then you'll need to guard them carefully. Ask me - I forgot that when Goblin dropped a friggin batallion on me! :D

Last: Lots and lots of recon. You need eyes to see what to do. And lots of FO's, since you want those shells to drop on the enemy before they move away. Shift-fire only works so far away...

kool,

i find my forces tend to be slowed down by infanty so i usally buy a load of halftracks to get them moving, whch i dont really like oding for some reason. however i find sniper with everything turned off make ideal recon and buy about 10 when i play,

So apart for buying a core force of Rifle infantry and tanks, everything else is generally surpless to requirement?

For example are special forces and airborne troops worth the addition expense?

Special forces or airborne troops can be used to get at your opponent's rear area (HQ/ammo dump/artillery/etc.).

In a meeting engagement, they may not add very much. Can be useful tools in a situation where you are assaulting and your opponent is in delay/defend mode.

Just my $0.02 worth ;)
