Stratos_MatrixForum -> Franco-Prussian war game? (3/11/2009 11:32:33 AM)

Exist any game to play the Franco-Prussian war in all his glory? You know with land and naval battles?

Strategy and Tactics did a game like this once. It is a magazine board game with full sized map and looks very good actually.

I have it and have always wanted to play it, but never have found a serious opponent for it.

Other than that, AGEOD (who just did WWI here) will be releasing "Vain Glory of Nations" soon which will cover the era in detail (1815-1918 or so I think) and I would guess that they will include this as a scenario.

There is a 300+ post thread somewhere around here where allegedly some small company was working on such a game, but they seemed to have vanished...Frank Hunter may one day do one but that is also only a small possibility....

The old Age of Rifles and some Operational Art of War III secenarios are the only one I am aware of but they only cover ground combat. Frank Hunter still intends to make a strategic game that covers that period, but he works very slow; being a one man operation.

Sadly neglected Wars that need a game: Crimean War, Franco-Prussian War, Anglo-Zulu War, Anglo-Boer War(s), Russo-Japanese War.

As much as I loved "Age of Rifles", it's time for a new, modern game for these wars.

Like I said, wait a few months or so for AGEOD's Vain Glory of Nations :)

It will cover all of that at a strategic/operational level with a decent system :)

That looks like a fun game, but it looks like the scale is a bit large and the scope broad. I was hoping to find a more small-scaled tactical battles game, or an operational level game.

Yes a tactical battles game is also what I expected. I suck controlling the economy and the big scope, a more small action is my desire.
Maybe a mod for an exisiting game?
