KG Erwin -> Customizing Game Music (Revisited) (3/17/2009 8:35:26 PM)

I've written about this previously, but some guys may have missed "how to do it". The guy who revealed "how" was BeachBoy. Once I got the recipe, I bought the soundtrack CDs to "The Natural" and "Field of Dreams" and ripped 192kbps MP3s using Windows Media Player.

There are two folders in PS which contain audio. One, obviously, is the "audio" folder. Here, one can backup the original sounds simply by renaming them. I took track 8 of "The Natural" ("Wrigley Field") and renamed it PS04TakeMeOut1.mp3. This is what you hear when you start the game.

OK, simple enough. Now, the real treat is having music to accompany the various menu screens. What you do is go to the html folder, and create a "music" folder inside it. So, I took other ripped tracks and placed them in this folder.

Here's the ones I picked, and how they should be renamed:

From "The Natural" CD --

Track 7, rename "almanac. mp3"
Track 14, rename "highlights.mp3"
Track 5, rename "schedule.mp3"

From "Field of Dreams" --

Track 5, rename "players.mp3"
Track 12, rename "standings.mp3"
Track 8, rename "stats2.mp3"

Of course, you can pick anything you want, but this should serve as a guideline. This helps provide an atmosphere that is uniquely your own, and for me, personally, adds to the "being there" immersiveness. [;)]

Notes: since I manage each game of my team, I do not replace the crowd noises and incidental music supplied with the game. The music I added is simply for the "viewing" screens, not the "input" screens.

Disclaimer: don't ask me to send you the mp3s, as these come from officially-released CDs that I already own. You'll have to provide these yourself.

Credits: thank you to BeachBoy23, for explaining how to customize the music. I just followed his example and did "my own thing" with it. [&o]

Yeah -- I think the "interface music" adds quite a bit to it.

BTW, about a month ago I started back playing PS and I've come up with a completely new "in-game ball park" view. I now actually like the "animated ball-flight"!

I might send it to PadresFan in the near future.

When I'm not watching a movie (or webcam) I allow the "team info windows" to show. I keep ALL the sounds turned off except the crack of the bat.

That looks freakin' awesome! I would love to see that particular view and look with the field shape of real stadiums. How did you move the boxes around? And how do you play baseball while watching a movie or using a webcam??? Shouldn't a manager be watching his team? :D

For the newer players, let me bump this. For a game of this nature, the music, in my opinion, is essential.

My daughter will hear this music, and she vocalizes the melodies along with it. I think I made some good choices, as I never tire of hearing them. A personal fave is "Old Ball Players", which is heard on the "Players" menu. This is what you hear in "Field of Dreams" when they start emerging out of the cornfield. It's nostalgic, beautiful and perfect as you look at that list of names, most of them long-dead.
