Hi, the different PBEM in wich I'm playin have pushed me to question how should one use surrender points in a long PBEM.

In my oppinion using surrender points to get big territorial concesion can only get you the ennemity and the frustration of your opponents. They will than only try to plan your demise.

I'm wondering if asking for enforced peace or alliance would be a better idea? The fact is that by asking for money, 1 or 2 territory max, alliance and a defence pact you are actually forcing your ennemy to become your ally for a possibly long while. He might even see that an alliance with you is benefical and than decide to continu that alliance after it is over... Any toughts?

I definitely agree. I can guarantee you if you take someone's starting home provinces, you are setting yourself up. That's a no-go for me. Protectorates less so.

Yes. Perhaps enforced peace is the way to go. Alliances. And marriages.

Right, well obviously "winning the peace" in games versus a thinking feeling opponent can be just as important as winning the war.

This is something Napoleon failed to do, probably because his treaties were about securing advantages in further war, not crafting a lasting peace.
