Agreed, 300 was by far to Hollywoodized. The 65' classic was so MUCH better. Sadly movies today are more Hollywood set rather then classic or more historic in nature, if the film doesn't sell they refuse to make it. Perfect example of this was a HBO special on the marines at Fallujah, Iraq which I was stationed in 03 to 05. Anyhow a good 80% of the film was nothing more then over-exaggerated hollywood style flick. I would say they got the names right, uniforms and weapons, the rest was over acted garbage not even close to what actually happened. However I admit while it was suppose to give an "idea" of what happened, but it was suppose to be documentary.

Golan and Globus who made a lot of action movies were on a news segment many years back. They would go to conventions and all they would have would be ideas and a few posters. No script, no plans. they would sell the concept raise the money and then only do a script. Hollywood is a money machine and now I would suspect most movies are being put out on spec and see who salutes with a big ball of cash. Once cash is there then worry about the script.

300 wasn't hollywoodized, it was frankmillergraphicnovelized. It followed it quite well, even if I didn't particularly like either. As to Golan-Globus, I've always considered them synonymous w/ crap. Now I know why. Thanks ool.

D-Day, the Sixth of June, it starred Robert Taylor as a American captain over in England. Edmond O'Brien is his chicken colonel boss. The woman he becomes involved with has a father, a injured British army general. She reports that there are only three things wrong with the Americans in Britain, Over paid Over sexed Over here

Hey some of us LIKE that cartoonish Hollywoodi-Frank-Millerization stuff! It may not be historically accurate, but neither is a rollercoaster, and both are nonetheless lots of fun! [:D]

George C Scott's opening speech to the troops in Patton... Quite a few scenes in Downfall... Eva Braun flinching being told "Eva...you're going to die."... the '88 manned by teenagers being overrrun... Richard Burton confusing the hell out of everyone whilst holding a party of German brass hostage in Where Eagles Dare... The big convoy attack in Das Boote... and the British flares going up in the Straits of Gibralter... The bank robbery shootout in Heat... The entire The Big Lebowski.

After reading these, I have to admit that my favorite Movie Scene of all time is the scene of the deployment of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. In addition there is the battle at the "bridge". King Arthur cuts off the black knights arm. The black knight wants to continue. Kng Arthur says,"Your arms cut off!" To which the black knight replies," Just a scratch. I've had worse! "

I have always like the scene in Frauline Doktor where the German WW1 cavalry with horses and men in gas masks charge the enemy during a gas attack on the French. 2nd is the scene in Zulu Dawn when they spot the impi's at the water hole. 3rd is from The wind and the lion, when the Americans march thru the street to attack the Morrocans.

Darned right. I took it over for my Dad to watch and came in yesterday when he was watching the crossing scene at Niimegen. "Hail Mary--Full of Grace. Hail Mary--Full of Grace." The film just sucked me right back in! Love Gene Hackman in the film as the Polish General "God Bless Field Marshall Montgomery."

I just found a dvd collection of about 50 classic war movies which are mainly WW2 based. Just watched Iron Cross and a John Wayne Submarine movie (cant think of the name) over all excellent movies for it time.

Battle of the Bulge It's the scene where the German Panzer commander enters the room with all the young troops and makes a comment about how young they are. Then they sing Panzer Lied. Just wonderful.

My favorite Western : The Searchers with John Wayne ( It was named the Greatest Western of all time by the American Film Institute in 2008 ). The very last scene, after everyone else goes inside the family homestead Wayne hesitates at the doorway, then slowly turns. An interior shot of him shows the door slowly closing as he walks away into the wilderness. Great scene, often emulated by other directors.

Right, Stuman, FANTASTIC shot! A great movie and an emotional hammer of an ending with that seemingly simple visual device.

I forget the General name, but in a bridge too far, the General looks up and says "to have such power at my command just once". Gerat one line way to show the disadvantage the German army fought under. Another great line in the movie. "Just making sure who's side you're on".

My favorite scene in a movie would never be filmed today. The new sheriff scene from Blazing Saddles. I will not repeat it here fearing an appropriate ban, but the film is a masterpiece.
