Italian forces must take El Hamra, Sofafi and Sidi Barrani by the end of turns 3, 4 and 5 respectively or the game ends in a Commonwealth victory. SITREP - Turn 1 Italian goals are to dislodge British forces from Sollum, Halfaya Pass and Sidi Suleiman. Sibille Division responsible for taking Halfaya Pass. (10th Army/1st CCNN Division Artillery in support) Pescatori Division responsible for taking Sidi Suleiman. (10th Army/1st CCNN Division Artillery in support) Gruppo Maletti will move E to highway S of Sidi Suleiman and engage/destory enemy units All friendly fighter aircraft set to CAP. Round 1 (70% remaining) -- Halfaya Pass taken – Moved units from Cirene Division into city -- British line broken SE of Sidi Suleiman. LXII(L) tank from Libyan Tank Command moving rapidly east. British AT unit surrounded at hex141/86. Round 2 (50% remaining) -- British AT unit surrounded/evaporated by tanks from XXI(L) tanks and infantry from Pescatori Division. -- British A-9 Cruiser tanks beaten back by Gruppo Maletti motorized infantry. -- Two British tank companies from 1st RIR surrounded at hex 141/88. Tanks from Libyan Tank Command and Motorized Infantry from Gruppo Maletti poised to attack. -- IX(L) tank positioned on road (hex 145/87 in order to cut off supply for British units retreating from Sidi Suleiman. Pescatori Division will press attacks into British forces stacked at 144/85. Escarpment to the NE restricts British movement. Possibility for surround and evaporate. -- Will launch another attack on British units (145/84) by Cirene Division from Halfaya Pass. Turn 2 - September 21st, 1940 Round 1 - Objectives are tight - MUST capture El Hamra by Turn 3, Sofafi by Turn 4, and Sidi Barrani by Turn 5. Going to use Libyan Tank Command to secure Sofafi. Camel Cavalry from Gruppo Maletti moving SE towards El Hamra and should have that location secured by next turn. Opportunities to surround and destroy some straggling British units E of Bir el Sheferzen. Will use Gruppo to try and exploit these units and destroy them. Turn 2 - Round 3 All three attacks were successful. (Sorry about the eye-straining pictures. I'll have them fixed next round) British 1st Rifle evaporated. Unable to surround 2nd/1st RIR...but pushed them S one hex. British 2nd/1st KRRC on Bug Bug highway splintered and retreats E. Rest of Round spent positioning units for next turn. Cirene Division reports destruction of British forces along Bug-Bug highway. Moved into positions directly W of the city. Artillery positions brought on line. Plans for attack the city to commence within the next 2 days. 10th Army HQ reports Libyan Tank Command moving from the S towards Bug-Bug have encountered dug-in British armor. Recon patrols report at least 1 motorized infantry battalion and armor in Bug-Bug. Artillery moving up from 10th Army HQ to support attack. Libyan Tank Command moving N from Sofafi towards Bug-Bug. Turn 4 - September 28th, 1940 SITREP: Egyptian Advance (Sidi Barrani) Gruppo Maletti, Pescatori and armor from Libyan Tank Command moving to surround and destroy British units in the Sofafi area. Cirene Division attacking Buq Buq from the SW and S. Divisional and 10th Army artillery provide support. Libyan Tank Command units will move through 'gap' between Buq Buq and Sofafi and begin advance on Sidi Barrani. British resistance in the area surrounding Sidi Barrani is unknown. Supplies will be an issue, but time is of the essence. Royal Army HQ requires the town be taken within 5 days. End of turn 4 SITREP: Egyotian Advance (Sidi Barrani) 10th Army HQ reports at least 2 British battalions surrounded and destroyed. Buq Buq has been captured. Libyan Tank Command and Marmarcia Division have moved NE towards Sidi Barrani. British resistance is difficult to pinpoint due to the open terrain, but intelligence reports at least 2 AA Regiments, 1 AT Regiment and an Artillery Regiment in the area. British armor and artillery are reported some 5/10 Km NE and E of Buq Buq. To the E of Sofafi, Pescatori and Gruppo Maletti Divisions report awaiting resupply before pushing E. British units are dug in along a highway 25 Km NE of Sofafi. Turn 5 - October 2nd, 1940 MESSAGE TO: 10th Army Headquarters, Halfaya MESSAGE FROM: Royal Army HQ, Rome MESSAGE READS: His Excellency Benito Mussolini, Head of Government, Duce of Fascism, and Founder of the Empire requests IMMEDIATE capture of SIDI BARRANI and destruction of any and all British forces within the city. 10th Army was presented with clear and precise objectives in order to secure a decisive and critical victory over British and Commonwealth forces in western Egypt. His Excellency again stresses the immediate requirement of this victory. INACTIVITY IS DEATH. END MESSAGE SITREP: Egyptian Advance (Sidi Barrani) -- Marmarcia Division, Libyan Tank Division and elements from 1st CCNN are ordered to the outskirts of Sidi Baranni, and instructed to engage and destroy any and all enemy forces garrisoned within the city. October 5th, 1949 1840 hours MESSAGE TO: Royal Army HQ, Rome MESSAGE FROM: 10th Army Headquarters, Halfaya MESSAGE READS: General Rodolfo Grazani reports capture of Sidi Baranni and total destruction of enemy forces garrisoned within the city. Losses are reported moderate. 10th Army requests permission to pursue and destroy enemy forces retreating east. Supply trains should catch up to front line forces within 1 week. End of turn 5 SITREP: Egyptian Advance 10th Army reports minor British counterattacks E of Buq Buq, with moderate friendly casualties before attacks were contained. Intelligence confirms the destruction of at least 3 British battalions, including the 4th Royal Horse Artillery, a HQ unit and 1 recon battalion. British dead and captured numbered over 200. 100 MGs were captured, along with 44 trucks, 5 Mk-VI Light and 5 A-9 Cruiser tanks. Units around Sidi Barrani are reogranizing for further advance once supply has been caught up. Further incursions by British forces are doubtful. Turn 5 (cont) SITREP: Egyptian Advance 10th Army advises Royal HQ of intentions: Retreat of British forces likely stopped near Zawyet Shammus. Divisions will advance to this location soonest once supplies have been caught up. Refit is necessary, but fresh divisions will be put on the line to advance in order to allow veteran units time to rest/refit. ETA on capture of Zawyet Shammus dependent on status of British forces within the area. More to follow. Turn 10 - October 19th, 1940 SITREP: Egyptian Advance 4th CCNN Division reports contact with several battalion of enemy motorized infantry along highway 45 SSE of Mersa Matruh. Friendly casualties were heavy, including the evaporation of at least one infantry company. Enemy intentions appear to be designed to split friendly forces in half and stop the advance towards Mersa Matruh. Enemy OOB appears to be battalions from the 70th Infantry and 4th Indian Divisions. Supply continues to be a problem as friendly forces move E. Roads are poor and incapable of supporting large amounts of supply traffic. Supply trains are only able to move a maximum of 40km per day.
