GMeyer -> Combat Calculations (4/1/2009 3:49:52 PM)

I don't think I fully understand how combat is calculated and resolved--except in the broadest senses, its better to have more troops than fewer I don't know, for example, how the "attacker's odds" are calculated. I assume its (1) unit offense/defense value, (2) nominal leader value, and (3) nominal terrain value combined into one number that is compared to that of the defender. Is this correct or am I missing something?

An dI really don't understand how the attacker odds ration relates to the unit by unit combat resolution shown on the battle resolution screen. Obviously an outnumber defender may have its units attacked more than once, but other than that, its hard to tell how the odds affect unit by unit combat>

Thanks.

For the most part, this is not a combat odds system. Overrun is an exception that comes quickly to mind.

Basically, if a unit is committed to combat, it fires at an adversary. There are many modifications to the chance of inflicting a hit, none of which is directly affected by the overall combat odds. As I recall, the chances are diminished by being hit already and increased by being shot at (but not hit) already.
