Get it while it's hot. Ownership of John Tiller's Battleground "Prelude to Waterloo" required to play this Expansion Game. Tested with Matrix, but Talonsoft version should be OK.

I'm downloading :)

Andy Moss -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/17/2009 1:08:12 PM)

Downloaded. Installed. Looks good!! It works fine with the original Talonsoft game.

berto -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/17/2009 8:57:28 PM)

Downloaded and installed.

Stunning!

You've definitely bested HPS in the 3D graphics. (It would be cool if somebody could retrofit these graphics--suitably modified for the battle, combatants, and period--to the earlier, standard BGS titles. Notably the more realistic terrain look.)

This is so awesome!

Bravo! [sm=happy0065.gif]

Thanks Berto, it's my pleasure. I hope you all enjoy it.

Hopefully more to come in the future. I would like to round out this 4th Coalition series with updates to Heilsburg, Friedland and Eylau eventually.

V22 Osprey -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/20/2009 2:51:26 PM)

Wow, look at all the add on Battles for Battleground Napoenic Wars, I wonder why there isn't this much work Battleground Civil War?I'm getting Napolenic wars on Wensday, so I will check this out then.

WaltM -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/21/2009 12:25:53 AM)

Word of warning !!!   Order the disks, those add on scenarios will not work with the digital downloaded version....at least they didn't on mine, ended up ordering the disks in order to play all those add ons.

V22 Osprey -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/21/2009 12:48:19 AM)

Dont worry, I get my games from NWS online gaming store(I'm ordering my physical copy for $32[:D]) so I definitly getting the Discs.I would get physical copy only anyway as so many things can happen and get corrupted while downloading.

eh? I made IOP from the matrix digital download versions and they bloody well work from my (XP SP-2) computer! and so did the old NIR add-ons.

It doesn't make sense at all that they wouldn't work - they are just scenarios and graphic files.[&:] But thanks for posting - if anyone else has a problem I would like to hear about it.

WaltM -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/22/2009 4:48:16 PM)

Well they bloody well didn't work on mine...found a post on another forum were a fellow was having the identical problem with the digital download version.Could it have been a corrupt download...sure !! Bought the disks...reinstalled and everything is fine.

cillmhor -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/23/2009 8:10:43 AM)

Well I'm really enjoying the battle of Jena at the moment as the French v AI. Skirmishers seem to take casualties more easily from line infantry than BG Waterloo and NIR, was this modelled? Lack of big VP locations is interesting. It means that a strategy of inflicting more casualties can win the battle. Leaves options a lot more open[:)]. Cavalry are interesting, they tend to be in uber stacks which means that cavalry v cavalry engagments with 'counter-charge' on leave no real room for the attacker, as so far any attempts to charge cavalry with cavalry end in heavy losses for the attacker. Also infantry in line seems very hard to charge and knock back, but that could be my bad luck/poor decisions. And so cavalry seem to be only useful for taking out guns and skirmishers.

Skirmisher fire seems less effective, but again this could be down to poor luck with the dice. Artillery effectiveness seems about right.

The dawn start is a real nailbiter, and the graphics are very lush. Thanks for all your hard work.[&o]

Andy Moss -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/23/2009 8:25:53 AM)

I have completed one game against the AI. If you know the engine it's still fairly easy for the French. I don't charge other cavalry. Charging disordered infantry in flank usually works. I found the AI didn't handle it's cavalry too well, and charged at me through villages. Go for big zoc kills, the AI can't see those coming.

Yes, inflict casualties on the opponent and forget objectives.

I thought movement in fog should be reduced. The French deploy far too quickly.

Overall the AI works better than in the original games. The graphics and OOB changes are a big improvement over original Nirproject Jena.

I want to see how the game pans out in PBEM mode. Given the numbers and position it should still be a French romp. Moreso than historically. But depends on the opponent I guess.

simovitch -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/23/2009 5:00:35 PM)

The Fire Table has been modified by the BGE team to reduce the effect of skirmisher fire (or fire by <100 men) so that is what you are noticing. They may be taking casualties more because the infantry brigades are bigger than at the time of the Waterloo scenarios.

Be sure to check out the Help => Scenario Help file to get an overview of the new PDT, and some campaign history, etc. (that's right, we even created modified help files.[8D])

WaltM -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/23/2009 8:41:20 PM)

I really enjoy these scenarios..In my opinion significant improvements all across the board.

Hornblower -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/25/2009 3:00:36 AM)

EXCELLENT WORK...

cillmhor -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (4/30/2009 12:07:30 PM)

Okay I'm now going to try and win with the Prussians against the AI in Jena. I stopped after turn 20 of the French game with victory assured.

Just some thoughts for a 2-player game: would it be possible to change the release times for the Early Reserves version of Jena, so that the Prussians were given a bit more flexibility in countering the early French thrusts. I'm thinking especially in the south where troops are fixed despite the fact that a battle rages just over the hill. In fact freeing up the Prussians to follow the sound of the guns from the outset would make it a bit more challenging to the French player in a 2-player?

Really enjoying it, and fighting off the French hoards is a challenge, even against the AI.

Strangely enough I was in the middle of editing some of the scenarios recently. I incorporated your suggestions and some others. See the "Update" thread.

simovitch -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (11/2/2011 11:52:52 PM)

I'm bumping this for newcomers to this series. See the first post in this thread with the link to the Napoleonic Archives. It's still there as far as I can tell...

pacwar -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/6/2011 1:18:41 AM)

I've got the original Talonsoft game and tried to get the 1806 Prussian campaign to work...I get the 1806 screen but none of the scenarios show up in the box...any ideas what the problem might be?

Andy Moss -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/6/2011 8:34:06 AM)

It sounds like you haven't installed properly. Are the scenarios in the relevant subfolders? I don't think it's a Matrix/Talonsoft engine incompatibility as all the files modified can work with both.
Is your Talonsoft game patched to the latest version?

Like Andy said, the file structure is set up for the Matrix version, but it shouldn't be too difficult to put the folders in a manner that the Talonsoft version reads, I'm just not sure what that would be.

If you can figure out the file structure, the mod should work with Talonsoft. It's been a few years since I looked at this... all I remember is it will be worth the trouble if you are interested in the Jena and Auerstadt battles.[8D]

Andy Moss -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/6/2011 7:48:47 PM)

Yes. You may have to manually install the files into the various subfolders. You shouldn't even have to rename then. Just delete the old contents and replace with the new. It's very straightforward actually but feel free to email or post here if problems. It's worth persevering with. When you are familiar there are the old nirproject add-on games still downloadable which you can also get to work.

pacwar -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/10/2011 11:35:08 PM)

The subfolders for Jena are in the file folder but when I initialize the game they don't show up in the opening screen box...I do have the latest patch. I was able to download the Napoleon in Russia mod's and in that case I did get the new scenarios to show up in the opening screen box but when I loaded one the map quality was horrible and the date at the bottom read 1800, so I suspect I still had a problem[:@]...I may just have to bite the bullet and get the Matrix versions...by the way, what's the difference between the mods already discussed and the games at Tiller's site, some of which cover the same battles? Also, I noticed he just released a Liepzig campaign game...anybody able to comment on that...from the designer notes it would appear to be more of a head to head game, at least for the scenarios that last more than a day.

Andy Moss -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/11/2011 1:18:07 PM)

It may sound a dumb question - what OS do you have ? The original games won't work with Vista and Win7, you have to buy the Matrix version.

Leipzig. The AI is as dumb as ever. Better in HTH.

pacwar -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/11/2011 6:28:18 PM)

I run the games under XP and have never had any problems with the original Talonsoft versions...one last question...so based on what appears to be a universal conscensus that the AI in the Tiller versions is not great, do the scenarios available from the NIR project, including the Jena scenarios, benefit from whatever AI improvements are inherent in the Matrix version of NIR and PTW?

Thanks.

db

Andy Moss -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/11/2011 9:06:23 PM)

There aren't any improvements in the Matrix version. So the nirproject scenarios are no better than any others in respect to that.

pacwar -> RE: "Invasion of Prussia" available for download (12/12/2011 3:40:33 AM)

So as far as the AI goes the Talonsoft, Matrix and Tiller versions are about the same?
