pixelpusher -> Alternate maps availabe in members area! (4/17/2009 6:19:09 AM)

So, we made some alternate map art and put them in the members area. (I think Erik posted about this earlier, but it was easy to miss.) These are just slightly different looks for the main map appearance, that we thought you all might enjoy.

They're called 'CoG MAP filter 11_01.zip' and 'CoG MAP filter 11_01.zip', and are located in the Members Club: Members downloads. (The same place as the alternate font download.)
Just download them and swap out the main map .PCX file with thses. Be sure to back up your original! They're sort of big downloads, (~61mb each).

Here's what they look like:

This is 11_01, which is more of a rough, grainy look.

And here is a closeup of 11_01:
As you can see, it's less smooth than the standard CoG:EE map.

And a closeup of 11_02
This one is sort of a 'canvas' look.

Anyway, enjoy! Let us know which one you like most!

I like the canvas one best.

Mr. Z -> RE: Alternate maps availabe in members area! (4/17/2009 3:26:35 PM)

They both have kind of a canvas-y feel; the first one is a bit brighter than the second one. I use the first one myself, with the Tahoma font (also available as a download from the same Members' Area page).

barbarossa2 -> RE: Alternate maps availabe in members area! (4/17/2009 4:29:13 PM)

I like the canvas look.  They remind me of the maps of Europe hanging on the walls at the Vatican.  There is like a whole room of maps (more like a hallway actually).  Unfortunately the Pope didn't have access to beautiful satellite imagery.  I think he would be jealous. :)

Just curious, what was your resource for forest cover in Germany at the time?

Strange, I logged into the members area went to downloads but only see the Tahoma font download, not these maps...?

Mr. Z -> RE: Alternate maps availabe in members area! (4/17/2009 5:17:21 PM)

IIRC the maps are not listed separately. They are included in the font file.

Er, just to clarify what Z is saying: for some reason the caption for the CoG:EE category of downloads says 'Alternate Tahoma Font'.

... But if you go in there, there are a number of different downloads, including the font one, the maps, etc.

Got them!

I've already swapped them out and checked them in the game. For whatever reason, they look beautiful when I open them in Photoshop but when in-game they appear very dark for me.

Any recommendations on this? I think if they weren't so dark I might prefer the Canvas-y map.
