Drat. I was in the area 2 weeks ago. I doubt the wife will let me out of state.

Spy Museaum was cool though.

Care to meet at the BB New Jersey?

I wish that I knew you were in the area! Let me know next time. So you are close to Philadelphia? I need to do a road trip up there this spring. Maybe you'll let me buy you a drink? [:)]

skrewball -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (4/29/2009 1:42:54 AM)

I can definitely meet up for a drink. However, if I see anyone holding a flower I will casually just ask for directions and move on! Lol.

AW1Steve -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (4/29/2009 1:44:01 AM)

Cool! That puts us at four and growing![:)]

Thank you John! That makes five! I kinda feel like that scene in the "Magnificent seven" when they start counting the gang. Can we do seven? [:D]

skrewball -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (5/1/2009 1:10:33 PM)

AW1Steve -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (5/1/2009 9:20:53 PM)

Just to bring everyone up to date....we had six coming, now back to five......
I was planning to meet everyone at 2pm at Navy Memorial , on the map near the Lone sailor. I'll be wearing a VP-68 ball cap. And if you can't make the rendevous , try this place. http://www.lovethebeer.com/rfd.html
It's RFD's , across from gallery place-chinatown.

USSAmerica -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (5/1/2009 11:12:45 PM)

Have fun, guys!  [8D]

Thanks Mike! We will look forward to your being at the next one! [:D]

AW1Steve -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (5/2/2009 4:41:53 PM)

OK campers! 2pm at the US Navy memorial! I'll be there early (look for the tal, heavy guy with the VP-68 ballcap) , and when we have most of the group, we will head up 7th to RFD . If you want to join us later, you can go direct to RFD , just get off at Gallery place/Chinatown and take the north exit onto 7th. It's on the opposite side. Don't be shy , it's a great chance to meet area brethern! And if you can't make this one, then keep watch , as we will try (or at any event , I will) do another in a month or two.

The 1st DC metro area summit has been held with great success! Six attendees! Photo's to follow. We are already planning the next one in a month or two! [:)]

AW1Steve -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/9/2009 11:42:57 PM)

Well guys, it's been three months....is it time again?[:)]

I can honestly say that I've never read anything by Jane Austen. My wife has her books, and all of the "chick flicks" made from them. I've tried to both read and watch them. Shakespear said it best "Much ado about nothing"! How Jane Austen managed to use so much verbage about non-happings is beyong me. I'll be carrying the James Clavell's translation of Sun Tzu's "Art of War".[:D]

PeteG662 -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/10/2009 12:49:38 PM)

Steve,

AE release could usurp the meeting. Skrewball will be heading overseas soon as well. We could try and meet soon.

Pete

AW1Steve -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/10/2009 1:01:37 PM)

Perhaps , but I was thinking more along the lines of schedualing a meeting just after release. Give us something besides girls and beer to talk about. [:D] I was also thinking that this time, we should start talking about the summit a lot sooner, to get the maximum number of people involved. Like maybe having it in August or even early September. A lot of our brethern plan their scheduals in advance (like a 1st turn on the Grand campaign) and the more warning and discussion the better. Last time we had what , 1 week? I was thinking this time a month or so.

So keep it in mind, look at your callender, and let us know what works for you. [:)]

PeteG662 -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/10/2009 1:10:12 PM)

I'm flexible.

skrewball -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/10/2009 5:43:42 PM)

I'm free until July 30ish.

What was the comment on AE? Do we have a release date?

PeteG662 -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/10/2009 6:29:07 PM)

You may be able to get it before you go to the sandbox.

SimonDC -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/11/2009 12:04:13 AM)

Well, that's a tease Tallyman. I'm in Steve.

Simon

AW1Steve -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/11/2009 3:15:00 AM)

That makes 4 of us. We can combine it as a Bon Voyage party for skrewball. [:D] In that case , we really should work at getting as big a turn out as possible. [:)]

Hornblower -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/11/2009 3:18:08 AM)

HMS Resolution -> RE: Northern Virginia WITP summit? (7/13/2009 2:33:18 PM)

Hullo gentlemen,

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to ask this, so my apologies in advance if not. I'm working on a paper for my application for grad school, on the Indian Ocean Raid, and I've amassed a ton of British documents on it. Unfortunately, I don't have much on the Japanese side of things, and I'd like to get this thing finished by the end of the month. My understanding---from Shattered Sword---is that the Washington Navy Yard in DC has some translated documents, and my understanding is that the staff there aren't able to handle research requests beyond rather general answers. As I'm in Chicago and my work affords me few vacation days---one of the many reasons grad school is an attractive proposition---I will not be able to get to DC before the end of July, which is also when I'd like to have the essay done with, so that I can start the submission process.

So! Would anyone be willing to do me a huge favor and go to the Navy Yard to photocopy some documents? I'm pretty sure I could work something satisfactory out, if someone would be willing to help a brother out.

Thanks for your time,

Edward

I could possibly help. Send me an email with the general outline of what you need , and I let you know what I can do. An afternoon of reseach, no problem. Two full weeks on a deadline, that might be a problem. I'm at AW1Steve @yahoo.com
