Jason629 -> First Scenario Question (5/22/2002 10:49:02 AM)

Okay....Loaded the game and started right away. I took the Coral Sea scenario as it is only 15 days and should be relatively self evident. Things proceeded well as I deployed for the run on Port Moresby. Like clockwork, little Shoho went down covering the invasion force after which Zuikaku and Shokaku went in and put the hurt on the Lex and sank Yorktown. In a return strike both the big carriers were "dinged up" quite a bit. All in all I was feeling pretty good....then....as my carriers are limping back to port and I am trying to figure out what to do with my frightened transport group......American subs come in and sink both the Japanese Carriers in the span of 45 seconds. Ye gads! Has anybody else seen this laser focused American submarine presence?

Actually, that's the first time I've ever seen or heard of such a double play for the early American subs. Quite amazing, if I had been playing the Allies I would be jumping for joy. I assure you it's quite a unique occurrence.

Since you mentioned the carriers were damaged, were they heading back with less than the usual number of escorts? To minimize the chances of any sub attack, make sure they keep the normal escort TF around them at all times.

Remarkable, truly.

Regards,

- Erik

Jason629 -> Escorts (5/22/2002 11:04:52 AM)

Actually there was little to no escorts for the two big carriers as they peeled off and limped home...one DD I believe if that. Such are the oversights of the first time commander :( I am sure plenty more "growing experiences" await me.
