Hornblower -> Why are Nassau's pilots in the 40exp range? (4/28/2009 5:24:54 AM)

Can some one explain this to me?
the Nassau jsut arrived and her "replacement" squadrons are filled with 40 exp pilots. as of this moment i have 723 USN pilots in my pool, and i jsut docked Wasp and replaces some VF losses, the pilots i received (not from the Nassau) were in the 77-79exp range.

so why are the Pilots on the Nassau in the 40's? did they not go through the same flight traning?
now more importantly how can i get them up to speed. She can't conduct flight operations with her flight deck loaded like that so can't train, and if put them on land won't they blow up to gi-normus size even if i have no replacements on?

Because they're ferry pilots, driving the aircraft from Nassau to destination. You don't need 80exp for that.

I don't know.  Ferry pilot or not if they tell me that these pilots are supposed to take off from one carrier and land on another they had better have some training.

I know you're not -supposed- to take replacement squadrons off their CVEs, but I'll say I've done so, trained them up, and then redployed to the CVE without problems.

I think it was more of a game design choice to prevent the Allied player from using the VR groups in combat, as they already have plenty of squadrons and it would give them an even bigger edge. As said, you can train up these VR squadrons but you will find that you don't really need to.

If you use them in replishment TFs like you are suppose to do, then the aircraft will transfer to your carriers to replace losses but the pilots will not, so your main carrier aircrews don't get diluted by them.

i have no intention of using them in combat, but I don't want a front line VF squadron taking pilots from a 40 exp pool..
as i understand it if say i have a 36 plane VF squadron on the Sara, and she has 35 planes and 36 pilots. the VRF squadron will fly the Plane to the Lex and the ferry pilot will return to the pilot pool.

IF that same 36 plane squadron is short a pilot and the plane, the replacement plane will move to the Lex and so will the ferry pilot becomming a member of that squadron.  This assumes of course that the ships are within range of each other.  Now for those of you who might doubt that happening i should be able to dig up a screen shot of VF-3 showing 35 pilots in the 90's, high 80 exp range, and #36 sitting there with 43 exp and 1 mission (the ferry mission no doubt) to his credit.
