Foraven -> Breakthrough with AI. (4/28/2009 1:29:01 PM)

I have been working with the lua files for a while now and found quite a few interesting things about it. The engine is pretty powerful and robust, there is a lot of room to improve the AI without requiring any engine upgrade. I'm having a lot of fun figuring all that can be done with the current scripts.

What i managed to do :

- Improve the AI decision to go into melee (check for moral and the odds they face)
- Fix the AI tendency to overuse grenades and blast allies (now they have 15% chance to throw a nade per enemies within 6 meters around their current target minus 0.375% for every allies found), this should make grenade using a lot smarter. If you bunch up, expect grenades.
- The ai can now decide when to use melee weapons or ranged ones. There was a bug in script that made it switch back and forth if both guns and melee where in inventory.
- Made some routine to make enemies with low morale flee melee combat (it was there but only if bare handed).
- Fixed the AI tendency to waste a lot of movement points going back and forth when targets are around or switch targets for no reason. Now the AI is quite smart.

If anyone want to try thoses scripts i made, just post and i will make them online (i'm still refining them).

Are you going to put out your own mod?

Soon. I tried to contact Reinforce for his permission to use some of his work (i started my mod with his as base), removing his stuff would delay me greatly. I'm still fine tuning my mod, i expect to be done in a few days.

I thought I saw a reply Reinforce made to a post you made saying it was okay for you to do that.

"Na I was going to suggest if you did that to save time use my mod as a template. If I memeber right I added in all the weapons save for afew of the RPGs and the handguns oh and I skiped afew of the SMGs as well. There's models for alot more weapons though but they are mostly things like an M4 with silencer/Genade launcher/Scope so forth for pretty well all the weapons. No scoped M-14 though.. piss me off. -_-

I did some skinning for the game for my own use that never got added into the mod so if your brave I can point you to those files or you can read threw my mods fourm post I think I blabbed on about where all the files for that is. Ahh my Hello kitty XM8 How I love thee.

Just add me to the credits for the stuff I did do beyond that it's up for grabs.

Much Love,
Reinforce "

It's alright then, there won't be any delays :).

If you want to try it out, i can make a zip of what i currently have. I'm still working on the AI, but the current ones work.

In fact, they work so well that i just had the most interesting firefight. The AI performed very well and gave me a run for my money, even though they were not that though (my changes to the characters stats goes a long way to make sure they are what they should be). The ai used few grenades, but they were adequatly used. There was a lot less useless movements, much more shooting :).

Have you made any fixes to the "Out of breath syndrome" that the mercenaries have?
To me the game is dead until it gets fixed.

No point of trying to play the game when the mercs pass out after 5 rounds of shooting and throwing grenades, let alone if they try to manuver.
Makes the game so damn dumb when you have no possibility of making complicated manouvers.Or even simple, for that matter..
IRL the battlefields would be intresting if soldiers would be in as bad shape as those mercs are at the moment...

oh,and if you manage to find a way to lessen / remove the exessive AP usage of dropping things, that would be superb allso..
Having to spend 18 APs to drop the single use rocket launcher is...well...it is money...

I believe Reinforce already fixed theses problems in his mod, and since my mod is based on his, the fixes will be in my mod. In my test i did not find any of theses problems so my mod should be for you :).

I'm packing my mod right now, will post it in a few minutes.

I decided to remove that post because it was a mistake.
