Well it sure looks like a fishing boat to this totally untrained eye. I'm gonna guess that it's a net-tender.

juliet7bravo -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:12:53 AM)

Too easy...

How'd you like to cross the Pacific on that beat up little tub-ette?

jcjordan -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:25:18 AM)

Looks wooden hulled but definitely beat up so maybe it did cross the pond.

wdolson -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:36:37 AM)

Mine sweeper?

Bill

HMAS Sydney -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:49:22 AM)

A death trap?

Nikademus -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:57:36 AM)

The winner of the Best Designed Ship of WWII thread

[:D]

"The winner of the Best Designed Ship of WWII thread"

No, but ought to be in the running.  Very well designed for their intended job, and probably had more actual impact on the war than most of floating junk piles/money pits/resource hogs being bandied about as "Best Designed".

[Psst: The boats in A Bridge Too Far were not inflatables, they were collapse-ables.]

DivePac88 -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 4:20:44 AM)

USN YMS 135-445 Yard or Base Minesweeper (YMS 415).

Ron Saueracker -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 6:19:11 AM)

Join the Navy and see the world. These guys got screwed. Pretty hard to chat up the skirts with this billet.[8D]

BrucePowers -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:01:12 PM)

Something really in need of a paint job.

vettim89 -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:25:58 PM)

Looking at the garb on the sailors and the hazy background, I am going to take a stab at location: Dutch Harbor?

BrucePowers -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 1:27:11 PM)

It sure isn't the tropics

Local Yokel -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 2:00:41 PM)

Surely that's the Golden Gate bridge I can see in the background.

SG radar even on a little combatant like this! What price being a JFB when your enemy can lavish equipment like this on the meanest craft? [:(]

BrucePowers -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 2:39:18 PM)

That does look like the Golden Gate.

Nikademus -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 6:13:09 PM)

YP-415 would be my guess.

Brady -> RE: Name This AE...305 (5/2/2009 6:50:28 PM)

YMS 415. it is[:)]
