makobyte -> Scenario Editor not working (5/6/2009 2:44:31 AM)

Hi! I just purchased Harpoon CE and I am running into a issue.
I am trying to use the Scenario Editor and pressing the Scenario Editor link in the startup screen does nothing.
I tried using the WSCENEDT Application but it gives me a error.
I am running Vista 64 with 8gb of memory, I don't know if this is an issue.
The regular game seems to work ok, but the Scenario Editor is not.
Can anyone help me?

See http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=1633589 about half-way down.

The quick answer is that 64-bit operating systems are an issue but not an insurmountable one.

Hmmm...
Facts:

* 64-bit versions of Windows (2000, XP, Vista, ...) will not run the SE as those versions do not have a 16-bit subsystem. If you have access to a virtual machine running 32-bit versions of Windows you can run the SE in one of those VMs.
* Use the HCSysInfo results to help narrow down your issue and solution http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?a...mp;showfile=233

Result from HC Sysinfo: 2009/05/05 18:54:53, Win 16-bit subsystem:, FAILED sysedit

It looks like I need to get a Virtual Machine that can run 16bit programs.
Anyone have any info on 16bit VM's? [&:]

You can read about the two most popular (but far from the only) options at: http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=3661

Are you guys working on a replacement for the SE to run on 32-bit machines? I mean with Win7 getting ready to hit the streets later this year and WinXP being phased out. It looks like 32-bit is going to be the way go to.

Yes, we're working on a new SE but it won't be ready for a very long time.  Some good news though, VPC with WinXP will be free with higher-end Windows 7 licenses, providing yet another option for running the existing SE.  The trouble with virtualization for the SE has been the expense of that second Windows license so the Windows 7 approach alleviates that expense.

Maybe someone will get a Linux VM for VM cranking someday that runs the SE.  Haven't found the time to do that myself.
