7A_Bjorn -> Multiplayer connections (5/11/2009 6:19:06 AM)

A few tech support requests:

1. Many of those that have CC TLD so far (myself included) are having a very hard time connecting to others with TCP/UDP or even with hamachi TCP. I'm 1 success out of 3 people so far and the others I've talked to also can't connect with very many others. Its weird that most players I know have very little problem with TCP for old CC5 but lots of problems with CC TLD TCP. I thought would be the same - is there some difference? Otherwise I am enjoying but would like to be able to play with others too.

2. Can you guys work with gamespy to add a CC TLD room (and, if possible, CC WaR room)? Many of us have better luck connecting with people there than over TCP/UDP. At least with CC5. Getting a CC TLD gamespy room requires assistance from gamespy and don't know if they gamespy is still doing any real support for new games?

Thanks for this game and your support if possible.

*S* Bjorn

Andrew Williams -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/11/2009 6:39:39 AM)

tLD is the same as WaR

the changes are in the manual an on the support website

Korzun -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/11/2009 10:31:07 PM)

After having opened the respective ports (and having uninstalled hamachi) I have no problem in connecting to other players with open ports on their side [;)]. It turned out that most of the guys I play against have routers and most of these have not opened their ports. Hamachi is no real solution in my eyes. It makes matters worse or could at least do so...as in my case. In addition, turn off the firewalls.

Here is a useful tool to check your ports!

RD Oddball -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/11/2009 10:43:23 PM)

Hey Korsun thanks for the report and for the advice to others.  Good to hear you got it working!  Would rather it be something simple.  Best for all involved.[;)]

I've heard similar reports about Hamachi.  Not condeming it as I've avoided it so can't speak from personal experience, it's just that there have been reports of difficulties using it.

Senior Drill -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/12/2009 1:14:49 AM)

One last thing to do Korsun: Go in to your firewall and allow the TLD .exe (it may be termed as "an exception"). Some firewalls also allow you to pass specific ports and port ranges, like the Microsoft game ports, where one fix will fix all.

Then you can keep your firewall up and not have to remember to disable for a game and then re-enable for security.

7A_Bjorn -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/13/2009 5:01:38 PM)

Thanks Andrew.  I was thinking those ports were only if you were playing UDP since they are listed as UDP ports but looks like for TCP as well so I'm sure that's the problem (I don't have a router but those I was trying to connect with do).

7A_Bjorn -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/13/2009 5:02:08 PM)

no plans for gamespy room?

RD Oddball -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/13/2009 6:38:40 PM)

We'd love one but I think that's up to gamespy iirc.

EagleMountainDK -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/13/2009 8:53:20 PM)

I have just tried CCTLD in MP with Hamachi - It runs great and we have no connection problems.

Just remember that your IP address in the Hamachi network is the address given in the top of the hamachi window when logged in.... See the picture below:
[image]http://www.twins4ever.dk/pictures/Misc/Hamachi.png[/image]

So don't try to use any other ip adress even though CCTLD gives you and IP. It gives me my internal IP....

ifoko -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/14/2009 4:01:43 PM)

I have very strange connection problems.

The strange is, that it works with some guy to play TLD, but with others no chance.

I have a static ip, firewall down and a good connection.

Is there a way to find the problem, e.g. Logfile,...

thx

it can be that the others are having problems with the correct ports. I came across at least 4 guys that had problems with their routers. This means that it is not necessarily up to you whether a connection is accomplished or not...

ifoko -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/14/2009 7:35:59 PM)

I have problems connection with guys behind routers. But the mates say that they can play TLD multiplayer and CC5 without problem.

I can play with 2 mates. Can it be that playes behind routers, have no problem to play with each other, but with a static ip they make problems?

Yes, it certainly would be up to gamespy but someone at matrix would have to ask them if one can be created :) My question was more if that had been done (the question asked)

Thanks!

Bjorn

ifoko -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/15/2009 7:30:16 AM)

As it seems, there is a bigger problem connection multiplayes.

It can not be today, that games got published that do not work multiplayer. Also that there is no error Msg, logfile,... to analyse the problem.

Also there is no support from matrix Games, that helps,

Dear Guys, pls fix this problem soon,

bairdlander2 -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/15/2009 2:18:06 PM)

I find I can host no problem,but cant join games,they should set up something like v-net from paradox(evan though they closed it).battle hq is bs as well,doesnt work

Good question. I would've thought it had been but need to ask to be sure.

RD Oddball -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/15/2009 5:15:57 PM)

@ Ifoko and Bairdlander - it's very likely that the proper ports are not open on your router or firewall settings aren't allowing the game to be fully operational.  Look at the second post in this thread that Andrew posted. All the information you need is at the link he posted.

A common mistake many have been making is that they are not also opening up the TCP ports as well. BOTH must be opened for both types of connections to work properly.

ifoko -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/16/2009 8:05:06 AM)

I have a static IP and I am not behind a router.

The first thing I would recommend, is to output a Error Message.

Catching Exception and killing the ErrorCode is very bad programming style.

Because now we can only guess what is wrong, but have no deterministic approach to solve the problem

RD Oddball -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/16/2009 12:43:54 PM)

I'll pass the recommendation along.  I'm not a programmer so it's gibberish to me.[8|]  I understand the point tho and what you're saying makes sense.  Not sure if there's a technical reason why it can't be done.  It's pretty old code so that may be the case.  Again, I'm not a programmer so that may not be even close to reality.

Pzt_Mac -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/20/2009 11:26:42 PM)

I've tried everything I know how to host (firewall, ports, various IP addresses, etc.) but nothing has worked.  I know several others who are having the same problem.  I'm running TLD on Vista, so unfortunately Hamachi doesn't work.

Anything you guys can do to help resolve this problem would be much appreciated.

Best,
Mac

PS, the game is looking great!

Andrew Williams -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/20/2009 11:33:47 PM)

Why would you try various IP addresses?

Just use your IP address.

Page 63 in the manual.

Get you IP you give to your opponent here:

http://www.whatsmyip.org/

Pzt_Mac -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/20/2009 11:53:34 PM)

I did.  I used the IP given from that website, as well as the IP address given in TLD multiplayer - they were different.  I'm sure it's my router screwing things up, but I'm unable to rectify the problem.

Andrew Williams -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/20/2009 11:59:50 PM)

quote:

IP address given in TLD multiplayer

at a command prompt type in ipconfig /all

The Ip given there should match the IP given by tLD.

This is the address you forward your ports to.

The address on the website above is the address you give to your opponent.

They will be different and they are supposed to be different.

See my port forwarding to give you an idea

Pzt_Mac -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/21/2009 1:52:38 AM)

Thanks Andrew, I'll give this a try.

mooxe -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/23/2009 10:47:16 PM)

Mac,

The address CC is giving you probably starts with 192.168... This is your internal LAN IP. Just ignore it, LAN IP or Internet IP showing you can still connect if the ports are forwarded. Do not give your LAN IP to your opponent as he will never be able to connect to it. (your internal LAN IP of Hamachi IP is not some secret which you have to blur out in screenshots either, for those that do!)

Forwarded means your router is taking data sent to your Internet IP and forwarding them through your router ports you opened to your LAN IP, which enables CC to function online. When CC reports your IP as 192.168.#.# its correct. Your router will forward all the data CC needs to that IP.

Some tips for everyone...

Double check that the modem your ISP gave you isnt doubling as a router. Go to the manufacturer site and check the exact model. Some ISP will block out all the user access to the router function so it seems like its just a modem. If it turns out to be a router also, and your modem is hooked to a home router, you have a double router. Get another modem, unless you are allowed to enter the user interface and adjust port forwarding, then disconnect your home router.

For Windows firewall make sure its set to warn you when a program is trying to use a port. Windows Firewall will automatically block the ports for CC unless you allow it to work through. You do not port forward through Windows Firewall, you enter Exceptions. TLD will be listed as "Close Combat Engine Executable" and its properties should state allow anyone to connect to it.

RD Oddball -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/24/2009 4:24:00 PM)

Great stuff Mooxe and Andrew.  Thanks for the info.

ifoko -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/25/2009 8:37:25 AM)

Problem again:

I tested with a mate (behind a router), which can play with everbody except me, TLD does not work, but orginal CC5 works.

I have a static ip, and never had problems with any other mulitplayer games (Civ4, Warhammer,...) only with TLD and WaR.
I can only play with 2 guys, I do not know why it works with them, and why it not works with others.

Since weeks the problem is known and described well, but no solution.

Please have a look at this, The game had cost a lot of money and my clan is playing a GC and can not join.

thx

Andrew Williams -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/25/2009 9:44:37 AM)

I can play with people who know how to set up their networks.

My son can play games on his xbox 360 with people who know how to set up their networks too.

The network connections for tLD and WaR have been tested and work correctly.

There is a community H2H GC that is ongoing for WaR people are playing fine.

So.. do all players have the latest directx installed?

Do all players have CCE.exe allowed through their fire wall(s)  both on their PC and on their router(s).. you may have more than one router as some "modems" are in fact routers.

Read your modems and routers manual.

Do you have all ports forwarded on your routers to the correct IP address for your PC?

ifoko -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/25/2009 10:06:30 AM)

It is good to hear that you son can play XBOX.

Many buyers do NOT can play TLD or WaR. But they can play several other games without problems.

Again:
* TLD or WaR multiplayer works sometimes.
* I can play with 2 mates
* I can not play with a mate, which can play with anybody else TLD.
* I can play with the mate the oringinal CC5
* the network is testet and works (PING)
* the ports are open and forwarded by the mates
* I have a static IP
* Firewalls down

So why can be a connection established with CC5 (Version 5.01) and not with the TLD?

Same PCs, same settings?

Andrew Williams -> RE: Multiplayer connections (5/25/2009 10:09:15 AM)

do you and your mates all have the latest directx installed?
