Senior Drill -> Greatest MG Team Ever (5/11/2009 7:58:37 PM)

Map = Easy Red
Single Battle, Player as German, Line vs Line, 15 minute battle

This battle was entirely defensive on my part. In the 15 minute battle, the Allies lost 1 tank, 1 AT Gun and suffered 60 casualties (27 KIA, 33 WIA), while the Germans lost 1 AT Gun and 8 men (3 KIA, 5 WIA). The casualties were entirely in the gun crew and one Grenadiere (MG) team.

I had one sMG34 placed in the partially destroyed house on the north end of the beach. This one team produced one half of the Allied casualties. Since CC2, I have never seen a single, non-tank unit rack up a score like this. Not in CC3, not in CC4 or CC5. Not even WaR. Tanks, yes, infantry, no.

And the kicker is that I never gave them any fire orders. They were placed on defend in the Deploy Phase and not touched after that. They did it all on their own.

I forget the name of the program the history channel ran about Omaha Beach but they had a German soldier who was stationed at Omaha interviewed in that program.  His accounts don't sound far off from the results you got in the game.[X(]

*edit*

I'm curious, did you have any command teams within command radius of this team?

The sMG34 and an Grenadiere MG team were all alone on the north end, with the Grenadieres in a trench by the VL. They were the team that got half shot up. The closest Ldr team was in the bunker down at the draw in the middle of the map, way out of influence range.

Just good old quality Prussian sprite training, fortitude and proactiveness. [:)]

Either that or really good fields of fire from a well concealed defilade position.

Nice one Drill.

Also got a nice Infantry Gun team.
The screen shows them after a night battle on St. Germain-de-Varreville:

That is the best inf gun team I ever saw in all of my CC games. Most of the time they got mortared or had bad positions, but this one managed to slaughter the paratroopers quite effectively, considering it was totally dark!

Yeah if you don't take care of those guns pretty quickly they'll decimate any infantry within good LOS.

Exactly what I was thinking of! Thanks for posting.

Okay...many H2H players don't understand why some CC fans still tolerate playing vs the AI at all [:)]
But I'm quite surprised that you guys can still enjoy playing vs AI as defenders...well I guess that's what the new windowed mode is handy for eh? [;)][:D]
Impressive kills tally nevertheless!

AZKGungHo -> RE: Greatest MG Team Ever (5/12/2009 3:51:46 PM)

You inspired me to try it.  My boys took out a few, and then got pulverized by the Allied AI. Not a one survived sadly. They died for the Fatherland but helped us win the day anyway!

I find the German mgs in CC5 Omaha much more damaging than the German mgs in CC TLD.  Omaha mod you can really rack up some kills on the beach with mg and snipers, vs human opponents too.

Senior Drill -> RE: Greatest MG Team Ever (5/13/2009 11:31:37 PM)

I'm of a differnt perception of the sMG effectiveness. The big difference between CC5 and TLD is the Crawl of Death in CC5 and the Move Canceled in CoI, WaR and TLD. Big body counts are possible in CC5 when the AI or an inatentive human player allows a team to continue forward under whithering fire as the MG team will focus entirely upon it. In TLD, they will break the movement of an enemy team thereby forcing it to ground, shift fires to another target and then another, then shift back to any of the first team still in LOS.

The body count of that MG team that I posted above was based on the AI's determined intent to move to the northern VL and fed team after team into the attempt time and time again.
