nior -> RE: the best mercs and squads? (8/29/2009 12:02:26 PM)

It really depends on what kind of strategy you like playing. Like say, are you the "charge in" or the "silent operator" or the "shoot them from behind a tree" kind of person. My comments are only on the mercs I have so far played with. Some of my comments are actually based on reading some of the XML files. Also, I play a lot of stealth tactics. Ghost is good with "silent operations", he's a stealth and camouflage expert and a good shot. He's not meant to be running around. I built my character as a stealth specialist and I usually hire him for his equipment. With the Fine-Tuned mod, his camo jacket and HK53 plus a silencer are some of the best beginning equipment you can outfit your mercs. I've actually cleared a few sectors with only my main character with Ghost's equipment. Venom seems to be the best all-around merc that I've used. Good with stealth, sniping, hand-to-hand, silent weapons, pistols and auto-weapons. Good stats with Strenght, Agility, Dexterity, and Wisdom. Morah is a good complement for her as Morah has high leadership quality and Venom is a sexist. But like Stralth_Hitman says... "I just dont like when she makes those questionable noises lol " Morah is great with burst-mode and quite good with single shots too. Based on the XML file, she's a double auto-weapon skill. So she works best with automatic weapons. If you don't have FT mod installed, Jabby (the free merc) is quite useful. If you don't like him, at least his starting weapon is nice to have if you're a "silent operator". With the mod, he costs some money. But this guy learns pretty quick especially if you had Dagger training him. Dagger is pretty good. Works with Jabby well. But these two have the peculiar habit of shifting to burst mode by themselves if you had them on single shot. It seems to be their trait... "aggressive". Smithy, I didn't like her that much but if you get her as a trainer for your other merc's medical skill... then she's incredible. CC, I like this girl. Good shot, only problem is her low strength, you can't have her carry much, can't run much, and should be armored lightly. But then again, she's not meant for running around and carrying stuff. She's a sniper. Pitbull, good backup soldier and medic. But gets out of breath pretty quick. He's ok for defending places and doing repairs and doctoring. For offensive operations, he's only good for the first few rounds then you'll have to give him some rest. Shaman, I didn't like his style much. Melee and shotgun. But I've been wanting to get him again and have him as a trainer, perhaps he can teach my other mercs to be stronger, more agile and more dextrous. Haven't tried the others yet. I usually stay away from guys with "loud weapons", so these are the mercs I ended up with most of the time. Hope that helps.
