Erik Rutins -> New Advanced Economy Guide Available! (5/23/2009 5:53:30 PM)

Thanks to Bryan Morgan, we can now offer you a new guide to the Advanced Economy in Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition. This is a supplemental guide that does not replace the manual, but should help a lot in understanding how to get the most out of your economy.

It's available now for download for registered owners in our Members Club here:

Excellent! I'm just to page 13 and have already found answers to a couple of questions I've been trying to figure out since getting this game. This will certainly make the game more enjoyable.

Thanks for releasing this asap-much appreciated.

Got it, Thank You Very Much, this is outstanding...

Pain in the butt to find though, hats off to 06Maestro for the linkage and those who asked the question "How do I find this!"

Best Regards

This guide is fantastic! I ran another Turkish game for nine years to compare with a pre guide saved game. The differences in the economy are amazing. Production is running 60 to 100% more than in the old game (2 items are 10 times more). The accumulated production is ten times more than in the old game.

Thanks again for this guide.

Hope it works for you.  I have found that, even back in COG, the advanced economy wasn't as difficult as many believed.  By looking at the forest and not trying to disect each tree, the advanced economy is actually pretty easy to manage.  Once you get better at it, you will see that there are ways to tweak a little more out of it, but for the guide, I just wanted to help those who just couldn't get the jist of it.  I do have some additional detail I was going to post in a few days/weeks.  It's just not a good time for me right now given my job requirements.  So, stay tuned if you want to see some really interesting stuff, like how textiles are REALLY produced.

Thank you sir. I always learn a few things from these guides and same with yours. As soon as the new patch comes out, I'm jumping back in again full bore.

Anthropoid -> RE: New Advanced Economy Guide Available! (6/8/2009 7:08:34 PM)

Hey I just read the whole Advanced Economy Guide (AEG) and just have to say: Wow! Excellent document! Great work BJMorgan!!

There is one question that remains a tad bit foggy to me: Waste. Here I'll just quote myself from the other thread where I recently asked the question, Anthropoid's Jager Infantry thread

quote:

Hey here's a question for ya Sarge: "waste."

What exactly is being "wasted" with higher waste? Money, food, horses? Everything? I'm guessing more-or-less everything is subject to "waste," and thus, all else being equal, a province will not acheive maximum productivity for any of its activities until it has 5 courts?

Courts. The manual says "level 5 courts no waste." Does that mean that a province with 1 court has 20% less "waste" than one with zero, and that one with 2 courts has 40% less? or is it a silly binary setup (God I hope not, this game is otherwise so well done, that would just be an utter farce . . .)

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess a couple other things: provinces that are conquested, or more likely to harbor revolts, or perhaps farther from the capital will suffer higher starting waste than others?

Is building up all provinces with additional courts a good strategy to improve productivity and efficiency?

Reading the AEG, I am now tending to the conclusion that there is NO benefit from reduced waste with provinces that have less than 5 courts . . . In short, if you have 31 provinces, all with four courts, the waste level will be the same as if you have 31 provinces with three or two or one or zero courts?? Do you only get the benefit from reduced waste if that thirty-first one has five courts, and does it not matter if there are four courts in all thirty of the other ones?

As you'll see in that thread, Sarge did his best to respond, but he was not entirely certain on some points.

ShaiHulud -> RE: New Advanced Economy Guide Available! (6/8/2009 11:34:12 PM)

Anthropoid- If you look at the 'Economy' report (e.g. Russia, 1792 after turn one) it says that average production is reduced by 8% due to waste. In the example of 1792 Russia it has 37 provinces, two of which are protectorates and, thus, not counted against waste, and only one level 5 court built. Thus, it has 4 provinces contributing to waste at a rate of 2% each, for 8% waste.

The only thing that is clear is that level 5 courts eliminate waste so long as you have enough to keep the number of provinces WITHOUT level 5 courts down to 30. So, if you are an aggressive, expanding, nation, you need to build courts in advance to keep up with your new acquisitions or you suffer waste.

Two more questions for BJ regarding the Excel sheet included.

First, the numbers you'e put togehter (and BTW, FANTASTIC WORK!! [:D]) are for 1805. Do you think it is safe to assume that the 1792 numbers would be comparable in relative comparisons, although perhaps all lower in absolute value?

Second, there are four major sets of columns with the following labels:

(1) Data from COG2Start.txt
(2) Data From COG2Provinces.txt
(3) Calculated Population
"Actual Province Development Levels
Same as COG2Start.txt"
(4) Actual Production at 75%

Number (3) is obviously derived from (1); I don't understand why it was salient but ah well. Number (1) I'm guessing is the level of development in each province at the start of the 1805 Standard scenario.

Number (2) is just a wee bit obscure.

Are these 'back-end' values which reflect the maximum output potential of each province?

If so, what is the difference between "SimpleMoney" "Money" and "domMoney" (which seems to have zeros in all provinces for Russia at least)?

Last question, I'm guessing that the final set of columns (4) is from your own efforts, tediously setting all production to zero, and then setting each slider in each province to 75% and observing the output? If so, WOW!! [&o] that is a lot of work!!!

morganbj -> RE: New Advanced Economy Guide Available! (6/9/2009 2:03:11 PM)

I'm putting together a set of "notes" about how all, well, most of the calucations are done for the economy, resource by resource.  I think it will have most of the answers you're looking for.  I have a major university report due in a few days, so you'll have to patient, but I'll start posting the notes when I can.  Stay tuned.

Anthropoid -> RE: New Advanced Economy Guide Available! (6/9/2009 4:08:20 PM)

No rush BJ! I pasted in the Province.txt for the 1792 scenario into an Excel, and have been using that to develop an intuition for a Russian province development scheme :)
