KG Erwin -> The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/4/2009 12:30:52 AM)

I hope you decide to see this through, Shaun. I'd pay for it. If DDSBB is gonna be in an extended gestation period, then many players would go for an updated PureSim.

DonBraswell -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/4/2009 2:41:14 PM)

I'd just like to see how the AI handles players improved. Drafting, older players in the minors and roster moves. The AI still drafts scrubs when it should wait for the free agent draft. Older players fill the minors when they should be released. I'm still having a problem with roster management, too many at one or two positions and one or none at another position. Also carrying one catcher on the major league roster. I hate it when a short stop or center fielder is used at catcher because the back up catcher was used as a pinch hitter, or there is no back up available, etc.

I'm still not sure what caused the catcher problem to crop up again, as this was addressed (and fixed) a couple years ago.

A recent problem I'm having, with any new MLB assn I start, is that almost all of the outfielders import from the Lahman dB with RF as their primary position. I'm forced to go into each team manually and move some to LF and CF.

Also, I'm still looking for something better with the "5-point scrub" pitchers. They are almost worthless. Do the 5-point pitchers (or batters) EVER develop into decent major leaguers in PS?

Hmm -- there's some OTHER news about PS on the Wolverine forum. You guys need to see Shaun's "freeware" thread. I'm uncertain on how to respond to that. Right now, this gamer is NOT happy with the news.

Jabez54 -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/4/2009 11:38:50 PM)

Mates ... since the statement that Shaun has released a few days ago about giving away the PS on the Wolverine forum for free ... I just don't know how to respond to this, [&:] but I somehow feel "mix-up of being cheated to joy for the less fortunate to afford the game" much like the steroids users in MLB and still enjoy the game ... so I am with-holding my feelings until Shaun clear up his real intentions - I personally would give him more bucks for improving the game of PS07 to PS09 for that matter because the game has brought me pure joy - always looking for more improvement to add on with the other guys who have the gifts to enhance the game to our fittings ... alas, I will wait until the end is clearly establish - would like to hear from you all about your feelings on this ...

I have to be 100% honest. When I read that news I was a little unhappy as well. As a fan of the game I feel a little cheated and burned for having supported it and now it is being given away.

But for free? I mean it seems you should at least start with price reductions before jumping straight to free.

At the same time I hope it will get more people exposed to this wonderful game. That is what I am going to keep telling myself.

DonBraswell -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/5/2009 2:47:35 AM)

KG, I was very suprised. I too hoped for an update to PS. A PS update that's not free to every one, I would pay for and hope it didn't become freeware. I try to hold comments but, I do feel slighted. [:(] Every one hang in here. I don't want to be the only one left. I get lonely very quickly. [:D] [:'(]

HotCornerDave -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/5/2009 7:15:26 AM)

I would pay for an upgrade to PS. For a small fee, I would get an improved game and Shaun would get a little extra money to help fund the upgrade and/or his work on DDS.

As for releasing PS as freeware, my initial reaction was not good, but after thinking about it, I think it is a good idea. Well, it is a good idea if he releases the current version as freeware, but charges everyone for the upgrade, assuming there is an upgrade. Also, I hope releasing PS as freeware doesn't mean Shaun isn't considering an upgrade anymore. But, back to my point. Releasing PS as freeware can be a good thing for Shaun and for us. The more people that are exposed to his game, the more people that will likely purchase DDS, which will hopefully keep Shaun in the business of developing baseball games for us.

Wrathchild -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/5/2009 1:14:40 PM)

My opinion on the freeware: I think it's a good business decision. A small company needs to generate interest in its product to move forward. If people that are hesitant about paying $30 for a 2+ year old product can get it for free, and see how good it really is, they may be on board for a new version, which would help the projected revenue of the new version, which in turn covers development. My impression of sports simmers is that they aren't necessarily a one product exclusive. I've even gotten the newest version of Out of the Park, something I didn't think I would ever do. And I feel that there are a lot of people in that community that aren't even aware of Puresim, and they seem to be looking for something that gives good historical replays, which I feel Puresim excels at. I say the sooner it's free the better, and the sooner we can start converting OotPers to Puresim! :)

puresimmer -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/5/2009 2:34:40 PM)

Sounds like there is some confusion here.

I am releasing the game for free, but doing that and adding some interim tweaks and upgrades are not mutually exclusive. I am doing both.

PureSim was released on 5/15/2006. It is 3 years old and pretty much everyone who was going to buy it has already bought it. I released hundreds of tweaks/new features over the for 2+ years after the game's release, so I don't feel folks that paid $29.99 or $19.99 for the game are getting any less value. That is also why I made the announcement before releasing the free version, so if there was anyone considering purchasing now, they could hold off.

I hope getting it out there as freeware might provide an opportunity for more folks to try the game and maybe lead to more potential for new customers down the line.

Yea. I hope you are not expecting a new game :) This is PureSim with some tweaks not DDSB, not a new UI etc...

Cool. I'm looking forward to the tweaks and upgrades, and to DDSB of course. Thanks, Shaun.

Yes, you made that clear, don't worry! [;)]

CrashDavis -> RE: The Proposed "Interim Upgrade" (6/5/2009 9:53:25 PM)

I haven't read Shaun's post on WS boards yet, so I just assumed that he was probably maneurvering the game - after 3 yrs - into position to appeal to more folks before transitioning to DDSB. I kind of expected that to happen eventually. So, it's kind of encouraging in that sense.
