Shogyn -> Support?? (6/5/2009 9:20:23 PM)

Basic newbie questions here....

A lot of my bases (Allied) are short on support,not by much but still short. How can I increase the support at bases? Is it just a matter of moving another ENG unit in?

Also re Industry,resources,etc....

As Allied is there anything I have to concern myself with in this area? Are support points produced from my total industry automatically and distributed? Do I need to overly protect bases that have resources,oil?

Just having trouble grasping the whole industry/production aspect from the Allied perspective. I cant find enough deatiled explanations yet to fully explain all this to a brand new player. Any directions to a source of info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

See the list of Must Read Threads just above.

Shogyn HQ's are your support friends in general. Check out units info screens if they have surplus support take advantage of that unit. Allied supplies are plenty, the hard part is staging them and having them where you need them. Hope this helps, the Must Read threads have a great deal of info.

Btw welcome to the asylum.[8D]

Oil + resources at a base with heavy industry = fuel and supplies.  Moving resources around is not necessary, but Australia tends to run out of oil since they've only got a few small oil production locations.  I've got tanker convoys running from oil production sites such as Ambroina, Sorong, the West Coast and Balikpapan to the Australian east coast ports and things are going great so far.

As for support, you can do one of two things; either bring in more units that provide support (HQ's are best, doesn't matter what kind they are) or decrease the number of LCU's that are present there.  The more LCU's present, the more support they need and most of them don't 'self support', so spread them out and that will help too.

If you want just a few support here and there - you can fly them in - use a small patrol airgroup. Alternatively form a small (one DD even) fast transport TF and move a few support squads that way. Some call this technique "pinching off" fragments of a unit and distributing them about as needed.

undercovergeek -> RE: Support?? (6/6/2009 3:35:03 PM)

what are the consequences of support been in the red?

DivePac88 -> RE: Support?? (6/6/2009 4:28:40 PM)

I think it is stated somewhere that the game mechanics require you to have a one support point for every squad, gun, and engineer, etc, or else the extra elements become disabled. I think in practice you can probably get away with a little less, but if you are assaulting it definitely plays to have as much support as you can lay-on.

Bases low on supply have readiness affected for LCU's and planes, IIRC. More are disabled/damaged, and it takes longer to get them back to health.

Awesome info just in your replies guys,thank you. Digging into the 'must-reads' now!
Thanks for the great welcome,glad to be aboard!!

Shogyn -> RE: Support?? (6/7/2009 4:08:40 PM)

Ok, I've read through some of the must-read threads,at least any that had anything to do with supplies/support/logistics,etc.
I'm still a little unclear as to how I can increase the amount of support a unit is receiving, short of just moving in more HQ & ENG units to the hex.

Here's a unit example I looked at(not in a base hex)...

2nd BURMA RIFLE BRG, INF

CW RIFLE SQD (52) x 56 108
CW ENG SQD (2) x 7 9
3in MORTAR (5) x 7 12
2pdr AT GUN (6) x 10 16
18pdr HOWITZER (5) x 3 16
ENGINEERS (4) x 5 9
SUPPORT (66) x 64 153

Support 64
Support Required 88

Some questions re the numbers above.....

A - What is the first number in brackets??
B - How are the TOE numbers determined? Five of them are just the sum of the first 2 numbers,but that's not the case for the 18pdr HOWITZERS & SUPPORT?
C - I see where the total support required(88) comes from..the total of non support elements(the totals of the 2nd column of numbers, not in brackets). But it says there is a total support of 64. How is that number determined?
D - I know HQ and ENG units are comprised of support elements, but I don't have enough HQ and ENG units around to make sure every LCU has one of those attached to it do I? Am I missing something here as to how I can keep all my LCUs with enough support to operate at 100%? Or is that just impossible?

Please enlighten a slightly confused newbie here,because I am diving into this game as a logistics control freak/micro-management madman who loves nothing better than to fully understand and manage a whole theatre like this one! Right down to whos on latrine duty and pulling a Patton and slapping any NCOs disagreeing with my orders!!
Thanks

Sorry, I couldnt get the third numbers(TOE) in each line to align properly.

undercovergeek -> RE: Support?? (6/7/2009 6:31:01 PM)

to the best of my knowledge the number in brackets are unavailable/disrupted/casualities, and the number out of brackets is what youhave left, the 3rd number been the total - if you rest in a base after a battle the bracket number goes down the non bracket number goes up.

by the looks of it you may have lost some mortars in combat and your support element is disrupted, and is only capabale of providing 64 support as opposed to a potential 153 - as they rest this will rise

all under the very dubious header of 'i think' - its only within my last PBEM that i have started taking more notice of this and asking questions like you!!

DivePac88 -> RE: Support?? (6/7/2009 6:42:57 PM)

Yes the numbers in the brackets are disabled/disrupted, if rest and refit your Brigade they will come online(undisrupted) again.
