I was under the impression that taking a nation's capital resulted in that nation surrendering - as per Crown of Glory, but this is not the case it seems. Have looked in the manual but unable to find what criteria need to be achieved to obtain surrender. There is no 'in game' indication of another nation's specific level of national morale - the Events Report may
refer to a nation having low morale but it does not state the actual level - and even with low morale the nation, with its capital taken, fights on ???

HiHi

Ithuriel, to see a Nations NM, go to the 'Diplomacy' page, open 'View relations', then click on 'Country details', there a screen shows all the Nations.

Hover your mouse pointer over the 2 little faces for any Nation and a pop up box appears showing that nations current NM, then click on the 2 faces and a scroll down page comes up detailing all the details of NM gained & lost for each month of the game.

Check out all the little icons on this page as they contain usefull info.

All the Best
Peter

Nations surrender when their National Morale (NML) sinks too low. This is primarily accomplished by defeating the enemy Armies in battle, and occupying their Capital, along with lesser things like occupying their non-Capital Provinces.

Generally speaking, when a nations' NML dips below 0 the chance of surrender starts to climb, and once it reaches -500 or worse, the chances increase greatly. Still, they sometimes (rarely) hang in there awhile, even with -900+ NML.

Thanks Peter. I have done as you advised - should have noticed that before, but it is the first time in CoGEE and CoG that I have had the problem.

Thanks also Russian Guard. I have been at war with Spain for some time now, having taken 4 protectorate territories plus 3 of Spain's home provinces, including the capital, have fought several land battles and a couple of naval battles, all successfully.
Spain's NM is -985. Stubborn devil !

ShaiHulud -> RE: Criteria for Surrender (6/7/2009 8:32:18 AM)

Strangely, sometimes a nation will surrender even though its NM is still in positive numbers. I've had nations declare war and surrender shortly thereafter, never a battle between us, and them with positive NM.

Otoh, like you with Spain, I've driven some nation's NM into the dirt and they've hung on a long while, even as I sat in there capital.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Criteria for Surrender (6/7/2009 9:56:52 AM)

it is still a random chance, but the lower the NW is, the bigger the chance

plus at times, there are things that add in NW and things that take it away, so the enemy Cap may be gaining while you sit there

(most times you get -200 for sitting in there Cap, in a long war, that will break them fast, in a quick one, they could of started with 1000, so it can take away)

on a side note, do you have enough troops in the enemy Cap to gain the -200 ?

think you need 40,000 men (sometimes people take the Cap and then move the Army out to hunt other Armies/provinces)

ithuriel2 -> RE: Criteria for Surrender (6/7/2009 3:47:57 PM)

Yes, I'm getting the -200, but the Spanish keep creating guerilla units which keep my forces quite busy in order to protect my supply depots.
Hope they crack under the pressure soon as another large force of mine is handling a war with France, and Russia and Prussia are looking threatening up north so I need my forces in Spain freed up.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Criteria for Surrender (6/7/2009 3:49:25 PM)

The big disadvantage I've got myself into with the Spanish war is due to my choosing to take the option "Declare War" due to the Spanish having troops in one of my provinces, I'm getting -40 Glory for "Treaty Default" in the Glory History, and there is no accountable reason.
I've already mentioned this in the forum elsewhere and gather that it is a fault that is going to be corrected in the forthcoming patch.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Criteria for Surrender (6/8/2009 7:31:20 PM)

Whoopee dooo !! Finally they've given in and no more -40 for Treaty Default.
