Any ally who sits back and allows a formerly mutual enemy to attack was no actual ally in the first place.
There was a simple solution to that conflict, both before and after it started. However, you spurned all efforts to forestall or end the that war. My earlier efforts to form a real alliance also failed.
These actions belie the true intentions of the holy Czar. I knew you were drooling over Besserrabia since the last century-well come and get it! [:D]
Please indulge me in pointing out to Turkey's current "allies" that, apparently from the Sultan's perspective, being "allied" by treaty with Turkey and France, and helping to defeat Austria did not constitute a "real alliance" (let us not forget that it was Russian troops who finally were able to occupy Vienna, not Turks . . .).
However, subsequent favoring of Austria over Russia by suggesting that Russia curtail her surrender terms and join an Ottoman-Austrian alliance _would_ have constituted a "real alliance" in the Sultan's mind.
Turkish loyalty and graciousness to those who have helped them to rise to the top of the food chain is spectacular to behold, no?
