ithuriel2 -> Development Glitch (6/14/2009 6:23:36 AM)

Have installed the patch, and decided to try "Path of Napoleon" scenario. First turn I set Roads Level One development in Development Advisor which indicated "1 turn". Next turn Roads Level One development completed but showing 2 turns for Roads Level Two without my doing anything ??? I should have reported it here but I decided to carry on as it was a bonus due to the new development not costing any resources, and I thought it was maybe due to it being the first turn.
However it has re-occurred with 2 other provinces where Roads development was initiated with the both developments of Level Two Roads due to be completed in one turn; next turn the Level Two Roads are completed and each province shows 2 turns for Level Three Roads without any action being action. Again there was no resources cost ???
Anybody else with the same glitch ?

I've seen this before. In my case it was because of insurrection in the province which halted any further development until it cleared up (on its own). In other instances, which occur more frequently, the amount of labor that is available (on sliders) is reduced. This has the same effect of (at least appearing) to stop progress-even lengthen remaining build time.

Did you add any building orders or change other sliders in other provinces? If anything happened to affect total labor, that would explain it. Otherwise-I dunno.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Development Glitch (6/14/2009 12:13:39 PM)

Thanks but this is not development halted but being initiated without my doing anything.
It appears to affect only Roads development. Development Advisor shows that it will take one turn - which it does, but the next turn shows that the next Roads level has been initiated without any action on my part.

Ahh-I can see clearly now...

That is quite a different situation-I have not seen anything like that.

I have not yet played that scenario, but will give it a go soon.
I assume you are playing as France.

Anthropoid -> RE: Development Glitch (6/14/2009 5:46:47 PM)

Sounds like it might be a bug to me and might deserve to be checked out by Devs; I guess if you patch up stuff there is always a risk that you create some new bugs? If Eric or Gil do not take notice pretty soon, I'd send them a PM. Might also PM one of the testers (Russian Guard, Hard Sarge, BJMorgan, not sure who else) if nobody 'in authority' responds to this thread in a day or so.

Oui. It is quite fascinating. Certain historical events occur that give it a dash of spice. It is the first time I've played without feudal dues Think I prefer it.

Yes. I guess someone will wish me to email the relevant saves - in fact I'll PM now. Thanks.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Development Glitch (6/14/2009 7:33:20 PM)

Uh uh ! I've just had the same thing happen with Farms development. Seems to only occur at Level 1 and 2 development. How odd.

ericbabe -> RE: Development Glitch (6/14/2009 8:07:59 PM)

You don't have the province development expert in the Development Advisor turned on, by any chance?

I probably don't need the saves if you can tell me a procedure for reproducing this.  Have you seen this happen in more than one game?

Just double checked to see if Development Advisor on in any provinces and it is not. Not observed in any other game, and cannot tell if it happens before the patch without re-installing original CoG2 version.
Cannot tell if it occurs in other scenario other than Path of Napoleon as I have not tried any others.

I am playing France and it occurred on the very first turn and occurs thro'out so far. It has recently happened with Farms development. It seems to be limited to the first two levels of development, and when allocating sufficient labour/manpower to complete development in one turn. It happens in various homeland provinces of France.

In a way it is an advantage as development costs nothing but it takes the challenge out of the game.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Development Glitch (6/15/2009 4:33:51 PM)

Just had the same with Barracks and Banks development.
From Barracks level 2 = 1 turn; next turn it shows Barracks level 3 = 2 turns. Does not seem to happen in every instance of identical development in other provinces.
From Banks level 3 = 1turn; next turn shows Banks level 4 = 2 turns.

ericbabe -> RE: Development Glitch (6/16/2009 4:54:08 PM)

Is this the 1805 scenario?

ithuriel2 -> RE: Development Glitch (6/16/2009 7:30:19 PM)

1792 Scenario - length 23 years; Advanced Economy; Difficulty - Normal

I notice that Glory History only shows details of the last turn, which means one is unable to compare previous levels.

ericbabe -> RE: Development Glitch (6/18/2009 5:49:53 PM)

I'm not able to duplicate what you're seeing playing France in this scenario, attempting to develop roads in all low-road provinces.  Do you know of any steps that can reproduce this starting with a new game?

ithuriel2 -> RE: Development Glitch (6/18/2009 10:23:15 PM)

It is not just confined to roads - as I have found out - it occurs with other low level developments.

Game details :-
Scenario = 1792; Victory Condition = Path of Napoloeon: Game Length 23 years; Advanced Economy;
Difficulty - Normal; Power = Normal; Combat Difficulty = Standard or Normal (not sure which I opted for).

Have the saves from early in the game if you need them.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Further Problem (6/22/2009 2:01:38 PM)

Encountered another problem when trying to play Path of Napoleon in the 1796 scenario.
The game starts and whenever clicking or right clicking on a unit the screen seems to freeze up and unable to click on any military or diplomatic units.
Unable to move around the map via the mouse, arrows keys, or mini-map immediately,but the white square in the mini-map moves.
The screen does eventually move to the desired position but after about a minute or so. One can zoom in and out on the map though.

ericbabe -> RE: Further Problem (6/22/2009 5:01:56 PM)

I've tried the game on these settings and haven't been able to duplicate the spontaneous developments.  Does it always happen for you if you just run the game with these settings?  Do you know of any steps to take in the game to reproduce this?

ithuriel2 -> RE: Spontaneous Development (6/23/2009 3:11:38 AM)

Have tried the same game again, twice, :-

Game details :-
Scenario = 1792; Victory Condition = Path of Napoloeon: Game Length 23 years; Advanced Economy;
Difficulty - Normal; Power = Normal; Combat Difficulty = Normal

On the first turn (June 1792) I chose to develop Courts Level 2 in Bordeaux and Le Havre as both these provinces have a population high enough to give sufficient manpower to complete both dvelopments in one turn. I then proceeded to the next turn without doing anything else that turn.
Next turn (July 1792) both Bordeaux and Le Havre show the initial development complete and both show spontaneous development for Courts Level 3 taking two turns.

I then started the same game again and repeated the same steps giving the same results.

That is all the steps I have taken.

When I installed the patch I wonder if my Anti Virus (AVG) or some other process on my pc somehow caused a problem with settings ?

P.S. in "OPTIONS" the following are not selected :-
"Show Computer Moves"; "Show Network Moves"; "Always Quick Combat"; "Autosave"; "Music".

P.P.S. Am playing a different scenario - France 1796, and find the anomaly is not confined to low level development as - Le Havre, Docks Level 3 = 1 turn (it had taken two previous turns), and next month shows Docks Level 4 = 3 turns. Thus it does not occur with consecutive months.
I wonder if I have missed it happening before ? Often the slider in Development Advisor shows that it will take x number of turns, but the next month may show it takes a turn more or less, as the development slider shows an estimate which may be affected by in-game variables - am I correct in interpreting the manual correctly on this last point ?

ithuriel2 -> RE: Spontaneous Development (6/23/2009 3:23:28 PM)

In the legendary dying words of Aleister Crowley - " I am perplexed".
I am wondering if it is worth starting a new thread headed - ' Spontaneous Development ' to see if any other gamers have encountered the same anomaly ? It may be that others have missed the spontaneous development ( when playing Advanced Economy'). I keep a note of province developments that are due to be completed within one turn.

I have encountered the same anomaly in other scenarios and other nations, i.e. :-

A) Britain - Scenario = 1792; Game Length = Scenario Default; Advanced Economy; Difficulty = Normal;
Combat Difficulty = Normal; Victory Condition = Scenario Default. No other settings altered.

The first turn, chose to develop Birmingham, Art Level 2= 1 turn, and Liverpool, Courts Level 1 = 1 turn.
Next turn those developments completed and showing Art Level 3 = 3 turns, and Courts Level 2 = 2 turns.
Played game twice over with same results.

B) Austria - Scenario = Standard Campaign; Game Length = Scenario Default; Advanced Economy;
Difficulty = Standard; Combat Difficulty =Standard; Victory Condition = Scenario Default. No other settings altered.

Unable on first turn to set any developments for 1 turn, so I reduced Feudal Dues in order to speed up developments.
It took two months to take effect and then in November I chose to develop Karlsburg; Factory Level 2 = 1 turn.
Next month it showed Factory Level 3 = 3 turns.

When I try this it reports 6 months and 8 months to complete these developments. Are you adjusting labor allocation in addition to selecting these developments?

ithuriel2 -> RE: Spontaneous Development (6/23/2009 7:00:05 PM)

Yes. Move the development slider full whack so that it shows it will only take 1 turn. Would'nt necessarily do it in ordinary game play but it is for the purpose of observing the anomaly.

ericbabe -> RE: Spontaneous Development (6/23/2009 9:03:10 PM)

I think I have found the problem.  Because it's completing the production in the same turn the order is given, the production order isn't being cleared properly by the end of the turn.  I think if I change the order in which developments are produced, this might fix the issue.  Thank you for your reports on this.

ithuriel2 -> RE: Spontaneous Development (6/23/2009 9:16:27 PM)

Thanks. I was beginning to think it was something my end.
