Depth Charges were used by TBM and TBFs against ground troops too. They were thin-walled with big explosive charge - so there were big blasts. Allies used them in Guadalcanal to hit some defiladed japanese positions. Few DCs into a gully and you have all messed up there - trees, limbs, kunai grass, limbs, all together...
