Buket -> Aircraft/ship settings.... (5/29/2002 6:20:33 PM)

Hey all, Please don't rake me over the coals for this question. I'm still trying to grasp this game and playing the first scenario. The problem I am having (with most strategic games like UV, HoMM, Civ- not that I rank UV down with them...) is that I play the game with a need to tweak things, especially if I feel that something should be set differently. I know what the units are, what they do, and how to use them but I can't fight this feeling that I'm doing something wrong, which, perhaps I'm not. I guess what I'm wondering is... what is the basic or safest setting for aircraft on a carrier, or aircraft on a base. I can tweak from there. I'm getting attacked by 16 bombers with 26 fighter escorts, while I have 9 fighters protecting the base or Carrier TF. I don't want to micromanage individual aircraft, but it is necessary- it seems. Another thing... I've seen this posted before, but perhaps I'll get an answer here. I wanted to station a Carrier TF off of a base I was transporting troops to. I want the carrier to attack with bombers any enemy ships trying to transfer troops to this base before my guys got there. The carrier was in position away from enemy air reach from their bases. After ending the turn my carrier chose to move within range of the enemy Air of their occupied base, moved within range of enemy carriers and got sunk. How can I set my carriers to protect a base from enemy troop landings, yet stay in place and NOT move to attack enemy carriers (where they will get killed). Ok, one more thing (while I'm here)... My subs in the Coral Sea scenario will not to anything to enemy ships in the slot. I have 4 of them in there hoping that they will attack enemy troop transports, but they don't do a thing (they are set on sub patrol). Thanks for your reply's...
