Asberdies -> Bug with patch (6/20/2009 5:06:24 PM)

hello,
i bought this great game after reading comment on forum. I first thought it was a sequel of Napoleons campaign who had a really lame IA, but when i read the forum i decided to try it and do not regret.
Well i made a few campaign and noticed some serious bug, most of them reported on the forum. I thought the patch would correct a lot of them but i noticed nothing expect for more bugs :/
The treaty bugs i noticed so far (after patch 1.09) playing french in the Path of Napoleon's scenario : was surrender treaties
Scuttling ships dont work
removing army dont work (was before patch, dont know after)
declare war dont (asked russia to declare war to england and did nothing) they were allied before that though
pledge for defense only work for new war
Since patch protectorate NEVER build units. i agree before patch there were a bug because at each levy period of spring troops were builds in some of conquered minor and in protectorate. But now i did Path of Napoelon campaign and no Protecorate buid any troop during all the campaign. i guess the correcting of conquered minor building units bug went too far and now even protectorate dont build units :/
I find this bug major because the only interest of making protectorate is for the troops they make (and for the waste you would have if you dont make protectorate) . If the goal was really that one i thinkthis is flawed because making protectorate only do get rid of waste would be really ridiculous.
I am also surprised noone posted about this lack of troop building by protectorate since patch or i am the only one to have this bug?

I have never played with Path of Napoleon so I can't answer many of your questions.

As to Protectorate levies, you make a good point. I'll suggest in the dev forum that it may have been "over-corrected" a bit. I have seen this too. Some protectorates still do levy, for example Naples, which still levies like crazy as a protectorate (possibly because it's part of the Kingdom of Naples). But as Russia I have made Finland my protectorate (after taking it from Sweden) and also made Vilnya a Protectorate several times since the patch, and they haven't levied a single unit.

I'm not familiar with what the protectorates should provide, but the regular feudal levees have been drastically curtailed. I have become somewhat familiar with the Turkish situation. Prior to the patch it really did seem that there were too many divisions raised each year. Within a few years the max number of units would have been reached. To build something you wanted, you would have to disband multiple units.

The volume of post patch levees is much lower-perhaps only a quarter of the former amounts. I think this is somewhat more of a reasonable number than the former flood of feudal divisions.

Too bad about the protectorates levees.[;)] It would be nice to understand the ability of a province to provide units.

inly played once, but as stated Naples levies ALOT!

Can you elaborate on some of these points.

For instance "Scuttling ships dont work" -- I have just tested and successfully scuttled five different ships. Can you give me the particular information of the situation in which you have a ship that cannot be scuttled?

Allies cannot declare war on each other, so asking a nation to declare war on its ally will fail.

Pledge of Defense will work for ongoing wars, but only if the defending nation is able to declare war without restriction.

Protectorates do still levy units, but the number has been reduced to more historical levels.

In campaign game scenario PAth of Napoleon, playing as french, after beating england in the surrender treaty i chose scuttling 20 ships as one of the condition and when i looked at english fleet after that i noticed no reduced amount of ships. I think i was able to see all englich fleets on map at this time and did not noticed any reduction in number of ships in any of them

i think they were allies when i put that condition in the surrender treaty. But then on other hand asking for breaking peace is lacking, unless asking for one nation to not ally with another make him break an alliance.

same as previous answer

I have to agree here. I have had various Protectorates for many years (Saxony, Finland, Batavia, for example), and did not see any levies from them, ever.

Finland I could see being very rare (although they absolutely did provide troops, per my reading of the period). But the others certainly should have.

I agree with RG.  I've not seen any protectorate levies in about 5 game years.

ericbabe -> RE: Bug with patch (6/23/2009 6:21:29 PM)

It does seem that there is a problem with protectorate levies.
