Deadpan -> Can the Japs hold the Allies off? (5/30/2002 11:34:06 AM)

This is for anyone, but specifically for those playing as the Japanese. If the Jap player is able to capture both PM and build a decent airfield on Guadalcanal (or elsewhere in the solomons) whats the chance of being able to stem the Allied advance? Will the seizure and consolidation of these two points ensure victory, or will the Allied quantitative and growing qualitative might still gurantee an Allied victory?

Appreciate any replies.

Greetings, If he can sink/damage the USN CV while maintaining some of his own in operational condition. And place them to oppose allied transport TF's then he will win. It all comes down to which side has the carriers operating in the waters around targets of invasion. The Allies can land march to bases in NG but if the Japanese take PM that option goes away. The Japanese if they can sink or damage Yorktown and Lexington early and still retain at least one of their large carriers can mount an attack on PM in late June-early July. Then they need to engage the new CV arrivals and win retaining at least one large CV of their own (there are CVL's and Junyo which work very well if free from interferance from USN fleet carriers) Of course in a PBEM game it is near impossible to coax US player into risking his carriers for anything less then the defense of PM from a serious Japanese attempt (unless it's me who forgot to put 'do not react' orders

Thanks Mogami
