Charles2222 -> Game Questions (6/29/2009 2:58:08 PM)

For some reason the quote from the game page doesn't entirely make sense to me:
quote:

Air units by group in their own airbase units

Is this a way of saying there will be air HQ's which can then send out individual squadrons? Will the air system work anything like WITP, where you can even split off very small portions of planes for special missions? I sure hope the air system is leaps and bounds above how WIR had it.

I also notice there is detailed production. This will be adjustable for both sides (hopefully even the minors as well)? It sure will be sweet to have more options than WIR had for this. I suppose production will be centered around armor and aircraft, and not getting into small arms, correct? Is there any sort of alterable portions of the production system, such as expanding oil refineries?

Wow, must be tough questions, as there hasn't been an answer yet despite all the other activity on this forum thus far. The quote I showed above was direct from the WITE announcement page where the game is described.

BTW, for those who wondered if there would be naval units, do know that the screenshots show some sort of naval icons.

Howdy

It has been a long time since I played either WiR or WitP, but I'll do what I can to answer the first part of this.

Airbases in the game are completely mobile units that have individual air units assigned to them. I think of the airbases as the ground support and admin people that provide the assistance that the air units need to operate.

The air units can be reassigned to different airbases and you can perform specific missions from each airbase, one unit at a time if you like..or you can let the computer automate this. I kinda do both.

For instance, if you want to bomb a specific Soviet land unit, you (as the German) can select all the Ju-87 Gruppes from each airbase within range and also include various fighter units as escort leaving your longer range bombers for other missions.

There are a good number of different type of air missions that can be performed, but some require specific aircraft types..like air recon.

As for the production side of this, there are other testers that have much better knowledge of this than me. All I can tell you is there are various factory types that include the different types of armored vehicles and aircraft, but you also have armaments, heavy industry, and vehicle factories along with manpower and resource production to consider.

As the Soviets, you can relocate your factories..and that is about the extent of my knowledge on that area for now.

Andy

Thanks.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Game Questions (6/30/2009 2:08:52 PM)

the LW has Gruppens and Staffels,based on these Airfields, while some of the other Nations will have Squadron size units (the Russians will have there Polks and other unit breakdowns)

Zveno=3 aircraft
Eskadrilya=four or five Zveno's
Polk=fighter/ground attack, four Eskadrili'i of 15 planes, plus staff flight (about 62 planes)
Polk=Bomber, five Eskadrili's of 12 planes, plus staff flight (about 62 planes)
Polk=Heavy bombers, total of around 40 planes

so unit break downs are based on the Nation that flew them

for the AB, think of it as a airfield that can move, and you have control of the AB and what it will have in it, and where you want it

Yes, WIR was much more confined, as you had nothing as small as squadrons. I was hoping with GG's games getting more detail since WIR, and the smaller hexes, that we would see the air forces treated like this.

very nice to know.  Does each side have individual pilots ala WiTP or is that too detailed?  Is there research in the game similar to..again.. WitP whereas you can try to advance the production date of a tank or fighter aircraft ahead of its release schedule.
thx.
john

I have been waiting for this game since WiR was released way back when.
