Busto963 -> More challenges with leaders amphibious landings etc. (7/9/2009 10:30:58 PM)

This may fall in the category of “not worth fixing”, but I am catching the devil with respect to leaders. Leaders add a lot of enjoyment to the game, but I find the whole way leaders are handled to be highly frustrating.

I am creating a hypothetical motorized USMC unit using LVT4s as APCs and would prefer to have non-motorized leaders, but to keep up with the troops (and avoid being slaughtered while being “carried”) they need to be motorized.

But I tried to use the unit in an amphibious landing scenario and found that my motorized leaders are not amphibious, nor can they be embarked in LVT4s, which is wrecking havoc with my landing force design.

I also wish that leaders in tank units, at least those in company and lower commands could actually be embarked in the tanks they lead.

I have also noted similar issues with armored infantry and PzGr units where the leader can be mounted on foot or motorized. This will become a bigger issue as JTCS is adapted to more modern conflicts where motorized and amphibious units are common (M113s, AAVs etc!)

Bear in mind that the LCV needs to have the strength to carry the leader (based on the leaders rating - DOH!)

However, if you vary the LCV strength based on what it is carrying savvy players will be able to distinguish what is being carried.

Or you can just right click on the Icon in the Unit list, which shows whats loaded on what.

Jason,

The LCV is not an amphibious vehicle; nor does not address the host of other issues I cited.

No, but it provides as an interm solution for an amphibious landing scenario.

Jason,

Also, I am certain that an LVT-4 could carry a jeep or light light artillery piece.

An LVT-4 should also have a higher defense than a Higgins boat (LCVP)!

Yes, they can, and it opens up a whole can of worms for coding so the LTV-4 can carry some vehicle/weapon types but not others.
