BlitzSS -> Retreating or Routed INF (10/26/2000 11:00:00 PM)

After intensive suppression units will break, as one would expect. However, if these same units are shot at again, in their retreat or route hexes, they very often upgrade their status to pinned and shoot back, rather then run faster or hard down. Is this by intention?

Well, if you shoot at someone.. they are very likely to go down and take cover (thus changing from routed/retreating to pinned), and perhaps even get desperate enough to fire back to prevent themselves from getting killed. Very realistic behaviour i'd say.

yes. if you see a unit running away like Monty python, unless your shot is a good one you might want to save your ammo for another target

Particularly since firing damage is reduced against routed/retreating units (your troops saving ammo for higher threat targets - or just being compassionate guys )

I usually don’t try to save INF rounds, especially if I know these units are going to rally back, behind the fog of war, and get a point blank shot on the next turn or so. ------------------ Old gamers never die; young ones do.

hello all , yes I think itīs by intention , at least if I was afraid and running for my life if someone started shoting me in the back I'll surely duck . I do prefer to wipe a unit out if possible because they tend to rally and attack again , on the other hand their harder to kill when running ;o)

The only way to force entrenched infantry from their foxholes or rough hexes tends to be heavy firepower or more effectively artilery, let them run out of cover then hit them in the open . Personally I think that infantry are too resistant to AFVs in the game
