Just to set the terminology straight, this is not a "mod" but an official scenario. However, 30 Brigade did manage to stop the Nips, and if Nik has determined that the best way to simulate this is to post the entire brigade up there, even though its not worth much more than a couple of battalions, and the 39th, 49th and 53rd Battalions AMF had to walk up there (historical fact) then that's the way it's going to be. Dial down the hostility a bit.

Guadalcanal A big Banzai to our first naval success.....Emperor knows we needed on after the Mikawa fiasco. We have decided to focus on retaking Guadalcanal even though prudence would dictate that we focus on PM given our success there coupled with the massive naval losses we have suffered. Prudance has no place in this round however. I'm purposely pushing the envelope for fun as well as to explore other areas. I can be boringly conservative some other time. Combined Fleet has arrived at Truk. Our plan is to race down at full speed with Kido Butai in the hopes of catching the convoy now seen unloading at Lunga base. Base Air Force will also attack, risking anhilation by LRCAPing F4F's. Hopefully the sub menance will keep the carriers at arm's length. I may also force a carrier battle. While a 2 on 3 CV battle will probably spell doom for KB, facing 4 full strength USN carriers (as demonstrated in the last AAR) is worse still. only one i think. INTEL says she sank but i am doubtful. Hopefully she is damaged enough to be out of the war for a while. I'm REALLY hoping for a CV to be hit. The last player who sat his carriers still in this scenario lost one and nearly lost another. That would really help me after losing so many ships in the first skirmish.

Guadalcanal The subs do their job and Joe keeps his carriers at arm's length, allowing Base Air Force to attack. Unfortunately their fearless leader (me) screwed up and left half the G4M's assigned to dropping bombs. We score few hits but do get one of the precious AK's serenely unloading at Lunga. We lose 2 A6M and 7 G4M in the process. We will continue to attack. KB is almost in position. I was hoping Joe would "lurk" south of Lunga. This is a common tendancy for Allied players in this scenario. It saves fuel, and keeps them safe from Rabaul. The con though, as i hope to demonstrate next turn (as i have in the past) is that it leaves Lunga wide open to attack from KB. Gonna get me some target practice i hope... Salt Lake city is hit again by a sub....which is a dud. This is a sore point with me. The dud rate for the Japanese torpedoes is set low (as any check of the editor will show) yet I have been amazed at the high dud rate often seen anyway through various playtests. I may eliminate it. No issue has been found with the code but it happens far too often for it to simply be explained off to bad die rolls. As a long time GG game player i have seen problems in past wargames where the "random die roll" generator acts screwy. (most notably in the game USAAF) in the meantime.....grin and bear it with a big Homer style "DOH!" Guadalcanal Bad weather thwarts my effort to hit the supply convoy so instead, I hit Guadalcanal, scoring some damage and hitting that damaged AK a couple more times that is trying to hide. There should be little cargo left intact in it now after a couple big bomb hits. Rabaul airstrike does good damage, but i lose 14 Zeros in the process. Sadly...at 14 hexes range, the Zero is virtually helpless as a fighter due to fatigue. Kido Butai does better because it's closer to the target. Pic shows damage done to Lunga base. 17th Army HQ is loaded onto transports destination Rabaul. It will be delivered to Guadalcanal via Express. More fuel on the way to Rabaul which sucked alot this turn due to a CA force arriving. Rabaul now has a formidable naval presence again. Guadalcanal Carrier battle of the Eastern Solomons. Kido Butai is routed by mass American dive bombers. Our own DB's do little though our valient torpedo bombers may have sunk Enterprise. Alas, all our cariers are K/O'd and have low probability of making it home. Retaking Guad will now be an interesting challenge against this unbeatable foe. Hmmm 1000lb SAP bombs seem to be able to de real damage this time. Wonder why you grouped alll your CVs into one TF? Grouping separately seems to have saved Joe's ones as even 1-2 torp hits could have been devastating on them. Still 48 of your Vals missing... Seems you have to time now the moment he retires with the CVs to take on supplies and then send in some surface combat groups. Don't loose faith in the subs just yet :D

As the scenario seems to start 6 August 42, having the troops inthe right place would make a good start

Hi Nikademus it seems both sides have very light losses to flak? (Light because the TF would been very heavy with AAA on both sides), do you think the reason your aircraft missed was because they flu against the base at lunga before attacking the Enterprise the day before? Tiger!

I was wondering the same thing...for whatever reason, if a carrier TF attacks a land base right before a carrier battle, things seem to go wrong to the side that attacked the land base...plus, weather over US carriers was Hvy Rain, weather over Jap carriers was Partial Clouds...might account for the poor AAA performance...i think the weather gods played a big role in this battle...

Hi All, I', with Terminus on this one...AE is NOT a mod. Mods overlay existing games. Here is a quote from Erik Rutins from another thread: "The Admiral's Edition _requires_ that you own and have installed a copy of War in the Pacific (any version) on the same system where you plan to install AE. If you have not, AE will not install and will not run. AE does _not_ install on top of WITP, but it requires it to install and run. After you install AE, you will have two separate working games. You can continue playing WITP and any ongoing solo or PBEM games without interruption while firing up AE and getting started with that. " I hope this helps, Kurt

Nik; Joe played a conservative Japan game, and was losing to you pretty handily. You are playing more aggressively as Japan, and it appears that you will likely lose as well, perhaps even worse than Joe. Do you think this scenario is skewed to the Allies? IRL, taking Lunga or PM was probably a stretch for the Japanese, so maybe you modelled the history too well. If you need to take one of those to have a chance in this scenario, then maybe that's too high a bar if this is historically accurate?
