So my question is could the allies have won with the USA and Japan not going to war but the USA continues it's underhanded support while staying 'neutral'.

Yes. I believe so.

Yes, possibly. It would depend on whether the RAF alone could have neutralized the Luftwaffe to the extent that Russia was able to achieve at least air parity to protect its massed armor and artillery.

But the post-war consequences would have been obvious to the British, so they would have been constantly manuevering to get the U.S. into the war and into Western Europe in force. Given the players involved, I can't see a likely scenario different to the way the war played out in total.

Continuing the recent wave of age old what ifs about WW2. I think WW1 was easily winnable by England, Canada and France without the USA, but for WW2 it's a harder call. This question is a bit muddled by the way the US cheated during it's neutral time by shipping grotesque amounts of war goods to the UK and Russia. So my question is could the allies have won with the USA and Japan not going to war but the USA continues it's underhanded support while staying 'neutral'.

This is interestingly worded. The US "cheated" and was "underhanded", shipping "grotesque" amounts of war good to the UK and Russia. I always saw it as the US doing everything it could within the technical limits of neutrality, to support the countries that were under siege by a ruthless totalitarian regime (of course the USSR was also a ruthless, totalitarian regime, but "the enemy of my enemy" applied).

Were you intending to create a controversial thread or are you unaware how that comes across? Between this and the "You Soldier" post, these remind me of some previous threads here that did indeed go semi-ballistic, though I can't recall if you started those or it was someone else.

Regards,

- Erik

Oh goody, what an educated and nuanced view...

I wish Erik would do everyone a favor and make you STFU for two weeks.

Terminus was being a smart-ass, and I've warned him about that, but the original post did not exactly start off all that well either. You are hardly an exemplar of good forum behavior though and here again I see an obvious abbreviation being used to try to get by the spirit of the forum rules. Consider yourself warned. Using abbreviations doesn't mean you can curse here.
