Redleg -> Operatin Kinderschreck Ready to Test Your Skills (6/2/2002 9:03:25 AM)

This is a fictional scenario, Eastern Front, 1942.
You will be honored to command a newly-designated reinforced Guards battalion of a tank army. Your force includes T34s, light tanks, assault guns, and splendid guards infantry.

Your foe (the German AI) has a similarly sized panzergruppe which consists of PZIII, PZIV, Stug, and a platoon of captured T34s.

Both sides are supported by a battalion or so of light artillery.

This is a modified meeting engagement or modified advance mission depending upon how you look at it. In any case, it is a mobile battle.

This will take about 2 hours to play with Op Fire turned off. 15 turns of unrelenting action and hopefully, a surprise or two.

I found this to be fun to design and play and I hope some of you will try it. Any reports about final outcome will be greatly appreciated.

started this and played a few turns without taking hardly
any casualities. The enemy tanks hadn't yet arrived and
the infantry and t-34's did a good job in spotting and
eliminating enemy AT-guns .

This was then probably destined to be the russian
commander's dream of a perfect fight , cause the next
thing I did was accidently click "end game/yes" instead
of proceeding to next turn .Hadn't saved so began anew.

Okay this Russian commander wakes up then , realises
he ain't much of a tactician and decides to rush the enemy .
Up north a few at-guns , snipers and MG's harrass the infantry
and tanks but manage only to knock out wheels n stuff from
BA-10's and killing a few men .

Middle ground was almost totally just t-34's supported by
couple of infantry units keeping enemy infantry from
taking victory the hexes . The AT-guns there took out
4 or so t-34's ( 0 in the dream version :) ) .

South ... the infantry was just about to become a nuisance
to the 4-5 t-34's there when the 20 pzIII's ,pzIV's ,stugs and
captured tanks wiped them out and ran for the victory hexes.
T-34's pulled back from all around the battlefield stopped that
charge with the aid of 2 platoons of infantry .

Game ended in a draw i think , with 10k-4k points ,no victory
hexes for the enemy and they had 1 AT-gun , maybe 4 pzIV's,
2 or so other tanks , and about 2 platoons of infantry left .

1 pzIV was found wandering , apparently lost , near the left
end of the map , think it couldn't have retreated that far , so
got no idea what it was doing there.

thanks for the scenario

Spwaw comes with an autosave feature included.
It saves the last FULL turn played, in slot 1(or 2).
So at the worst, you'd need to replay one turn...

gotta remember that
thanks , dude

You did it again Redleg, excellent scenario, played it too a draw (8100 Ruskies/4100 Germs). In the briefing you say something to the order of "Fritzies should worry when they see our T-34's" so I assumed they never saw one, bad bad assumption, not only did they see them they........(radio shot out)....keep'em coming.:D :D :)

I am happy this is being played. It does get a bit wild. Good outcomes, guys.

These encouraging comments inspired another East Front battle at Vitebsk versus the 7th panzer (Ghost) division. This first one is a particularly nasty little battle for control of a stone bridge.

Those truppen from the 37th Panzer recon battalion are tough. But the Red Army fights on........... coming soon.

I had a lot of fun with this one also. Swarmed unopposed across the the whole front for 2-3 turns, ran into some "minor" resistance in the south, and swung my t-34's from north to south to flank the gemans. Only problem, by the time I got there, I had no tanks left and suddlenly I found the German armour, or it found me

:( Managed a draw anyway, something like 3k apeice, and about 400 men each, but I lost 34 AFV'S vs German 2:rolleyes: I held all the Victory hexes except the southernmost 3. All in all a fun romp while I wait for Crete series 2. I also tried Tigers without fangs, man thats brutal! I played 3 times before I managed to exit 1 tiger with a 4man crew.
Thanks and keep 'em commin' :)

Thanks for trying the scenario(s). The Tigers Without Fangs and this "Kinderschreck" were a real blast to create and play-test.

More on the way - I just finished alpha-testing a particularly nasty small, quick-play that should be interesting. Still working on details and the text file but it won't be long. It is Red Army units trying to hold off recon from 7th Panzer during Barbarossa.
