Good afternoon guys.

I am exhausted.
And i hate august.
Intensively, positively, deeply, meaningfully, instinctively, madly, without mercy, i hate august ! [sm=nono.gif]

hope you Threadster brothers (and sister of course) goes well.

And good day to you Eric! Cheer up , August is almost over. (I thought August was the month that much of France goes on holiday?). [:D]

hi Steve. Unfortunately, August is the month when my beloved get crazy. Each year, the anniversarystress her to the max, and we had to drive (once more, already did it monday (or was it friday, i can't remenber) her to the psy doc.
That's why i hate august.
And i don't wish this to any thread brother (or sister, hi Graffin).
Even to my opponant (trying to joke sorry [;)] )

Obviously the answer is next year (time to plan ahead) you need to drag her (and yourself) over here. August for us is generally a great month (birthdays, anniversaries--next year will be our 30th) and we will keep the two of you busy. [:D] beer, corn,steak,air shows, state fairs and rodeo's, road trips to Deadwood, The Little Big Horn, and lots of strange and "exotic" (in the sense that you'll never see anything like it in France) to keep you both busy and your minds off the past. [:)]

AW1Steve -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/25/2010 12:55:46 PM)

How about that? A UNP. Eat your hearts out Yuri,Simon, and Dixie! (Speaking of which, where are our British bretheren?). [:D]

And a damned goood place for your lot![:D] Why aren't you with the bulk of your country-men in Orlando? (At least in August it generally seems like every Brit in the world is there, generally queing up in front of The Rose and Crown). [:D]

We are already planning an "exotic" ride to Scotland. We already visited Edinburgh, the Trossach's, the Grampians and the Highlands; we are now planning for Islands, but we don't have decided yet if we should aim for Lewis Islands or for Hebrides/ Shetlands.
Although i 'd like to meet you in...(searching on a map)...hmm, oh, Nebraska, i think Claire is not very glad with the idea of visiting USA. (wich is sad, because from my own i can only imagine giant steack and new beer [:o] ).

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/25/2010 1:05:00 PM)

Go to Orkney! Everything from pre-historic stone rings to the remains of the RAF and RN bases at Scapa Flow. And wrecks to dive on too if you're into that.

And airplanes! Don't forget airplanes! [:D]

I guess we'll just have to visit Europe again. It's been a while. We were planning to have gone there this summer, but the surprise orders came up, moving us another 1,500 miles from Europe. (And the hassel of moving in general).

Like I told Walloc last night, it's easy to find Nebraska. Look at a map of the USA and try to put your finger dead center. 10 to 1 you'll not only find Nebraska, but probably hit Omaha! That's it. [:D]

BRRRR..... cold wreck diving! Bermuda, or Truk or Kawejalin would be probably a lot more pleasant. [:D]

Simon, Thanks. I obviously forget the right name: i would like to see Scapa Flow and Scara Brae (the oldest village in Europe IIRC ? ).
I will try to convince Claire for this heading.

- the german fleet that sink itself in 1919 IIRC ?

Edit: and maybe the Royal Oak sink in 1939 by Prien ?

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/25/2010 1:24:59 PM)

That's what's at Scapa Flow, yes.

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/25/2010 1:26:52 PM)

The Royal Oak is there but, like HMS Hampshire off the west coast of Orkney, is a War Grave and therefore illegal to dive on. The Royal Oak's resting place is marked by a bouy and an oil slick as her fuel tanks slowly rot and leak.

AW1Steve -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/25/2010 1:27:24 PM)

Well, Kwaj has the Prinz Eugene, Truk had lots of Japanese wrecks, and Guam actually has a WW1 German AMC touching a WW2 Japanese Freighter. And all have much better weather. On the other hand, the Orkeys have better Scotch Whiskey. [:D]

I was under the impression that most of the German High Sea's fleet had been raised and scrapped. [&:]

AW1Steve -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/25/2010 1:28:39 PM)

And there's always Pearl Harbor, though the park service frowns on diving on Arizona and Utah. [:-]

It wasn't a big one, it was a few mines laid by a U Boat.

This is the Kitchener Memotial at Marwick Head:

One of my Brit colleagues traveled on business to Australia a couple of years back. When they asked him if he had a criminal record he came back with "I didn't realize it was still a requirement." That got him the full security check as well.

It seems that customs and immigration officials everywhere are seriously lacking in a sense of humor.

But you gotta admit that was funny. [:D][:D][:D]
