I am playing as France in a PBEM (nofrills), and this turn, I tried to select Switzerland for a trade. Interestingly, on the trade proposal screen, it told me there was no path!!! However, France and Switzerland are still sharing a border! What has happened here? LOL

I have the save file for the turn. An interesting problem!

The only thing which has really changed in the last few turns was the French invasion and take over of Piedmont. Peidmont fell this turn.

The path does have to go from the source province to the destination, it can't just go from France to Switzerland.  The path cannot go through enemy units.  I'm not sure whether that's a factor.

Okay. Well, France went to war with Peidmont/Savoy in the previous turn. Now that the war is over, the problem has disappeared. So I will assume that everything worked fine for now. Other that that, there were no enemy units anywhere in the area.

Paths also cannot go into or through enemy territories.

Trade routes are hardwired right? So trade from Switzerland probably goes south through Savoy and that explains the disruption.

Well, IF trade paths are hardwired, and IF the path from Switzerland to this province went through Savoy, then it was all WAD.

They aren't hardwired -- they should look for a path that works.  If you come across this situation again, please zip and send me the save files and I'll take a look.
