The equation is:

Digital Rivers American server@dial up speed (56K Baud)=48 hrs.

The downloaded file actually worked considering the number of times my ISP timed out during the 2 days. Now another 10 hours to download the planning map.

Good gaming everyone!

Any download is going to be really long/impossible on a 56k connection. On a 56k, you can't even look at AARs with screenshots without it taking an hour...

Osprey, you are overstating things there. I use a dialup connection that rarely reaches 56k, but I regularly look at AARs and other threads with multiple screenshots. It usually takes no more than 5 to 10 minutes to load one of those pages!  I also play PBEM, and it takes about 30 miinutes to download my incoming turns as the allies.

However, my computer told me that the AE download would take 27 hours so I bailed on that choice. I guess that I have to wait for my disk to arrive... [:(]

Ok, then nevermind then about the screenshot/AAR comment.I'm just going off of past expierence, I'm on a 3 Gig connection and it still takes a minute or two to load AAR with lots of Pictures.

Dial Up connections really suck but it's the cheapest way to go. When the price of high speed comes down I'll be in the market.

For now I'll make do. It doesn't stop me from enjoying this forum and AARs posted here.

For me it is because my home is so far from the DSL and cable hubs that the improvement is miniscule compared to the increase in cost. Until they improve that factor I am sticking with the most bang for my buck... yes, I am of Scottish descent... [;)]

Good for you Brad. I'm with you.

I decided to post this string just to inform guys like you just in case you decide to download.

A 56k connection should allow for about 20 mb download per hour, considering the server is not congested.

If you can use a download manager I would be all over it. I lived with 56K for over 5 years and downloaded many files larger than AE.

I would imagine the speed is a function of your ISP and the server used to download from. I usually average around 15 mb/hr. but this time it looks like the average was less than 10 mb/hr. I used a download manager but it is one that isn't blocked by many servers. Thus it probably uses only one channel which is slower than a full blown download manager.
