wmtiz -> Tough Japanese Amphib Units (6/4/2002 11:23:08 AM)

Having played several of the scenarios I have noticed that the Japanese Amphibious ships seem to be able to withstand numerous bomb hits and still stay afloat whereas the Allied amphib units seem to sink after just one or two bomb hits. Could this be becasue there is a tonnage difference between the two sides Amphib units (with the Japanese being much larger) or is there something else I'm missing.

I have located and pounded multiple Japanese transports with multiple airstrikes from both LBA and carriers and they seem to keep on ticking, but in a foiled attempt to get troops to Gili Gili, an amhibious assault force with CA and DD as escorts were caught by LBA from Rabaul and the amphibs did not last long at all. The invasion turned into a search and rescue for the swimming infantry unit survivors.

I know the FOW may make the outcome of an airstrike seem to score more hits than it really does. I expect some exaggeration, but I've seem Japanese transports take hits that have killed CV,CA and DD units and still stay afloat and deliver the troops to their destination. The only time I have really mauled a group of Japanese transports was with a heavy cruiser surface force that luckily found them at night of the coast near Gili Gili and finally put them out of my misery.

Has anyone else seem similar results?

Very very often an heavy damaged ship sinks after a couple of days undetected by friendly recon, so very probably those ships you hit are yet sunken!
