Duke of Earl -> What is up with CombatNet 4.01?? (6/4/2002 12:33:23 PM)

Bonjour everyone,

I ran across this post from the MilitaryGamer Online forum:

Combat Net v3.2 Released

Hi Guys

I have updated all the links and just released v3.2 of Combat Net. This will fix the Buddy List not showing up for everyone. Just download and install.

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/combatnet/combatnetv32.zip

For some reason, in little over a year since this announcement came out... the CombatNet 3.2 server does not appear to be working anymore... and, by the way, the link in the foregoing post is a dead link...

So... I have downloaded this software from my LGA CD and tried to connect with CombatNet to set up a multiplayer account... but all I get is a dead wire... light's on, but nobody's home...

I have even edited the gs.ini file... as suggested by David Heath in another post on MilitaryGamer Online:

How To Fix Combat Net RIGHT NOW!

Hi Guys

We have tracked down the problem with Combat Net. The problem is a setting in the ini file. Below is what you need to change. Its Very simple and anyone can do it.

Using notepad go to your windows directory and open the file "gs.ini" and edit the following lines in your gs.ini file. Please note you may only need to change one line is some cases or both. You will find these two lines near the bottom of the gs.ini.

[AutoConnect]
DefaultIP="www.militarygameronline.com"
DefaultHTTPPort="8080"

Please let me know if it fixes your problem or doesn't

and still no connection...

And I can find no explanation for this problem anywhere... a real mystery... does anybody have info on the status of CombatNet?...

Cordialement, Duke of Earl

Duke of Earl -> Going to try CombatNet 4.1... (6/5/2002 4:13:03 AM)

Bonjour everyone,

Got the word from Marc Schwanebeck on the MGO forum that I should try the CombatNet 4.1 download from Matrix... so, I'll do that... maybe this will solve the 'dead wire' connection problem...

Cordialement, Duke of Earl

Duke of Earl -> Deadwire with CombatNet 4.01... (6/5/2002 5:54:41 AM)

Bonjour everyone,

Downloaded CombatNet 4.01... uninstalled CombatNet 3.2... installed CombatNet 4.01... no problems with install...

But, no connection with server either... still have the dead wire...

I did get this message from the Game Client log file:

quote:

"Error: occured in module SendData() in file PMDialog.frm. Error number: 424, Error Line: 0, Description: Object required, 4:06:35 AM 6/1/02, Version: 1.21.0"

So, what is up with the server?.... I can't figure this one out...

Cordialment, Duke of Earl

cough*still need some help*cough

Duke of Earl -> Finally got a connection... (6/9/2002 3:48:07 AM)

Bonjour everyone,

Well, a tip from Wittman_101 on the MGO forum and I finally got an account setup on CombatNet using the 4.01 software...

But, the server is only open on weekends, thank-you very much... so access is for weekend warriors only... hmmmm, must be controlled by the National Gaurd... :p

So, my next question is this:

Who do I have to shoot around here to get a dedicated game lobby setup on CombatNet for the 'La Grande Armee' Series?....

Since LGA will soon support multiplayer functions... and it will also support DirectPlay... setting up a multiplayer game should be a snap on CombatNet using DirectPlay... so, I think LGA deserves it's own game lobby now... :D

Cordialement, Duke of Earl
