I would absolutely offer a mulligan in such circumstances, and I would guess most PBEM players would. If the TF wasn't spotted in-game, or if it was but the other guy missed it, that's just part of the game. But if I accidentally sent the wrong file (or forgot to send the file) and the other guy entered his orders rather than delay the game, that's not fair, IMO.


Correct - it was my fault he did not have the correct replay and such to notice my CVs 100 miles off Midway and a chance to recall the Yorktown. If he saw the intel and did nothing, then I wouldn't have felt bad - or if he had the right turn and missed the intel then too bad. But where its my fault, I couldn't deny him that chance.

In the end it did not matter as I bagged her - but at least it was an honest and true kill.

OH! I misread that. I didn't realize it was the wrong Combat replay. I thought it was the wrong turn. Disregard my seemingly jacka$$ statement :)

DEI:

Well I landed a Coy unit at Babo and took it. I was loading them back up to move to Ceram when Rob showed up with some allied CLs and DDs and wreck my TF. Both ships were sunk and all hands lost. That is my first unit I have completely lost - usually I have some survivors, but not this time.

Philippines:

My troops are still bombarding the allies at Clark Field while regaining fatigue and moral. I also have more troops on the way to help crack the forts here.

China:

Not much happening here - I have finally gone through my Manchuria Area and put all the artillery into strategic mode and headed them towards china. They are all arriving at a city (can't remember which base) where I will buy them out and send them via rail into china to kill some chinese and take some bases. Once the artillery is bought I will look at air units.


Malaya:

Have hit a roadblock at Johre. I am bombing and using artillery while waiting for my big hitters to join up before pushing on towards Singapore. I have found a new trick too.. Apparently you can bombard troops along the coast that are not in a base - I don't believe I knew that before. But its nice [:D]


Burma:

Still sitting in Pegu recooperating from the beating at Rangoon. Replacements are filling in slowly and disabled units are repairing.


Borneo:

Am moving air assets into position to support the invasion of Palembang - Rob has 4+ bomber units in the area so I may have to suppress them before I can risk any ships in the area. I am slowly building a port 3 at Miri but it seems like its going to be slow going...


SW Pacific:

I took Gasmata so the allied troops there have no where to run and will slowly starve in the jungles.


US Pacific:

My evacuation of Midway is still ongoing and I am almost below the 6000 troop limit and supplies are slowly starting to accumulate. The trouble is Rob is moving subs into the are behind me - I have spotted at least 4 subs, not to mention the 2 sitting in the Midway hex. My CVs are still on station 4-5 hexes SW. I am trying to decide just how many troops to leave there. I know they will be cut off and destroyed at Rob's convience, but if I can keep the impression of having air assets there he won't do anything without at least 1 CV -- and right now he has none in the area -- but not sure when the next one arrives. If only I could move like 100 torps to the island without having to move an Air HQ [:@]

Alaska:

I have been thinking about opening a new front against Rob - although a small one. Lots of islands in Alaska that are ripe for the plucking with little defense. I just need to find me a small combat unit or two and some escorts and go.

Yeah I would love to use some sub invasions but haven't figure how to yet. Anyone play with sub transports and know the tricks ?

US Pacific

Midway is finally below the troop max and supply is slowly accumulating - I think my troops there are actually getting happier too - about time. Damn it takes a long time to load troops from a size 1 port. I am thinking of pulling back the entire Division I landed on Midway and only leaving the Coy BF there and maybe run some float planes out of there on ASW ops. I don't think Rob will attack it for some time - maybe find a CD gun LCU and move that there too along with a small unit of Vals. I know I can't hold it, but I want to make him bring everything to take it back - not just a weak invasion force.

I am only building forts and nothing else as he will take it back eventually.

The CVs protecting Midway went south and paid a visit to Johnson Island (I think thats the island just south of Midway) and discovered an allied TF there. The TF was huge - 20+ AKs carrying supplies and men (probably fuel too). I damaged 10+ ships and supposidely only sank 4 or 5 of them - but I cant imagine merchies taking that kind of damage and surviving - so FOW must be messing with me again. The CVs are now heading west to Kwajelein to refuel, rearm and prepare for the next attacks.


Burma:

Over 100 Sallies helped an armored Regiment hammer a british unit trying to flee Rangoon. The British unit fled back towards Rangoon and there can't be much left of it. I have been bombing it (and scoring good hits) for several days and the armored regiment has attacked it a couple times too.

That should have both units that tried to escape Rangoon on the road north of the base and beat to hell. More men and supplies he will have to waste to try to get anything of worth back from those units.


Malaya:

I am still stuck at Johore Bahru. I am waiting 1 more day for 3 more regiments to arrive and then I will shock attack and I should take the base. Then I will need a couple days to rest before begining the attack on Singapore.

I think I am way behind schedule here - don't remember when Singapore fell historically - but I feel I am behind.


Borneo:

I am moving men, supplies and aircraft to positions to support both the invasion of Palembang and the invasion of Tarakan. I will need a couple days to suppress the aircraft at Singapore and am waiting for CV support to arrive as well.

Philippines:

I am still sitting at Clark Field bombarding and bombing everyday. I am waiting for another Bde and another Div I found lounging in the home islands and is just getting into the fray. Once they arrive I should have the strength to push him out of Clark and with the added strength and the loses on his units from the retreat Bataan should fall within a week. He has to be low on supplies and I am actually bombing the bases trying to kill supply as well.


China:

All of the coastal areas are mine and clear of chinese units. I am slowly pushing his wayward units out of the interior and once the arty arrives from Kwangtung bases will begin to fall. So far I have bought out like 5 large arty units - but need to stop as PP levels are very low (and I try to never drop below 100 just incase).


SW Pacific:

Is very quiet. Lots of allied subs around Rabaul and Truk but my ASW IJN units at Truk can't find them and when they occaisonally do they can't hit them. I am waiting for a large shipment of men and supplies from Japan to arrive and I believe I will be using the 7th Inf Div (lately from Midway) to bolster the defenses in this area. Perhaps they will either land on the mainland and push for Port Moresby or simply sit at Lunga.

Having NO repair ability at Truk hurts. I have lots of ships with 1 or 2 major damage and no way to repair them without sending them home - and I won't do that until upgrade time.


Notes:

I am realizing how rusty I am in the game as I recently found several units in Japan (2 Divs and a Bde) sitting there when they should have been moved months ago to the front - 1 Div to malaya and the rest to the Philippines. I am also noticing small units here and there that I have completely forgotten about. Would not surprise me if I am 2-4 weeks behind the historic invasion schedule due to my mismanaging of units... But on the other hand at least I am just not using them instead of losing them.


Totals:

Not sure where I would compare as I have done very little industry changes / expansion and concentrated most of my economy changes on aircraft and engines. But here are my totals so far as of Feb 21st, 1942.


Jap Score: 8,285 (steadily increasing)
Allied Score: 10,077 (hovering around and slowly decreasing)
Heavy Ind: 132,202 (slowly going up by about 2k per turn)
Manpower: 252,964 (slowly increasing by about 2500 per turn)
Naval Ship: 3,419 (increasing about 200 per turn)
Merch Ship: 10,571 (decreasing about 100 per turn - I have increase some small yards)
Armaments: 60,273 (increasing about 500 per turn)
Vehicles: 5,524 (increasing about 100 per turn)

I am thinking of increasing a few more Merchant Yards but not sure. I don't have enough HI coming in to increase much more and maintain a steady increase. Once I get more of China I will have a good HI increase and then can expand again.

Good luck. As far as I can tell, there are no mobile CD units at the start of the game (The wake unit comes as a reinforcement after a bit and is mobile)

Afraid so: Singapore surrendered on Feb 15, 1942. The key point: is Rob still flying out of the airfields and interfering with shipping oil and other resources back to the HI?

Yeah figured - I'm a week behind and growing. Rob is still flying fighters and bombers out of Singapore - mostly bombing troops in Malaya. I just haven't had the ability to smash the airfield / aircraft there until now. I have a group of zeros that will be sweeping Singapore daily now and will turn my bombers loose on the Singapore airfield - this should stop all of his air power there.

I fould that if you sweep johore for the first few days you can pick off some of his cap from Sinapore. They have the habit of sending a few planes after you ( CAP bleed ), also send your night bombers to bomb the airfield (Moral) + Remember Altitude is "King" zeros at 20,000. If he goes higher you go higher. You seem to get one zoom attack for being higher than the cap.

next send your fighter sweeps over over Singapore to pick off any left.

Once this has been done send all fighters on sweep and escort and all your bombers set to airfield. (No more enemy planes)

I do this over six days 2 days for each. normally works


7.4.1 COMBAT AIR PATROL (CAP)
CAP may react to defend a target as far as 2 hexes away. To do so, the hex to be defended must be attacked by more aircraft then are defending the hex, and the hex the CAP is going to come from must be under attack by less aircraft than are currently flying CAP over that hex (checked for each air unit, one at a time).
The CAP that is going to fly out of their hex must have an extended range that would reach the hex to be defended (but no more than 2 hexes away). Also, in order for this extra coverage to happen, the attack must be detected by radar in time to allow for the CAP to reach the target (an intercept is allowed 33% of the time even when there is no radar). The exact number of aircraft that will cover outside their hex is dependent on how good the radar detection is on the incoming strike.


7.2.1.7 AIR UNIT TARGETS AND DESTINATIONS
When planes bomb an airfield they can hit aircraft on the ground, support troops at the base (Headquarters, Anti Air, Artillery, Engineers, etc.), supplies at the base, the airfield runway, and the airfield service facility. They can also reduce the Morale of air units stationed at the base.

US Pacific:

I am still evacuating the 7th INF Div from Midway and deploying it to Kwajelein for use in the South Pacific. It is slow going trying to load the Div via a size 1 port, but I don't want to waste any supplies or effort to enlarge anything here as I will simply lose it. I am still not sure what kind of aircraft to base here, but will probably go with a small unit of fighters and some Vals I think. The fighters will probably be Nates upgraded to Oscars.


Burma:

I have the Imperial Guards Div moving south towards Rangoon along the coast pushing all Allied units before it. I have captured the northern two bases near Rangoon and am moving south with final destination of Rangoon - crushing the base forces and small combat units I encounter.

At Pegu my units are still recovering from being pushed out of Rangoon, as they await the arrival of another INF Div. My air units in the area are hammering units outside Rangoon as well as the airfield at Rangoon in an attempt to stop fort building and waste supply. There hasn't been any allied aircraft at Rangoon for a long time now.


Malaya:

With the fall of Johre Bahru the door to Singapore is open. I am now resting my units as well as filling their ranks with new recruits before heading south. A couple more days of this and I will head for the river to assault Singapore. I am still having trouble getting air assets in the right places for ease of use, but I hope to have that sorted before my men start their march so I can fully support them from the air.


Borneo:

Western Borneo is now mine. I have completed airfield improvements at Pontianak in preparations for basing fighters there to provide LR CAP over the invasion forces for Palembang. I am trying to consider how much force to bring on the first wave and whether I have allocated enough troops to this operation.

I am also preparing (at Jolo) for the invasion of Tarakan. Since I have very few suitable bases on this side, I was bringing in a small CV group (1 CVE and 1 CVL) to provide air support but as they approached Jolo they were surprised by the UK CVs. In several air battles my Zeros killed over 20 UK planes (the bulk of his carrier air wings) but they managed to land 2 torps on CVL Zuiho and 1 on BB Ise. In the fight I had a chance to strike the UK CVs but all of my Kates were still set on training as I was not expecting any battles yet. So 20+ Kates sat out the fight - GRRRRR I wasn't happy about that [:@]
Anyway, both the Zuiho and Ise made port and are fixing the damage but both of them will need some yard time. The UK CVs smartly made a run for it and escaped without any real damage - their CV aircraft were mauled, but those should be easily replaced.


Philippines:

I captured Clark Field as well, but apparently my attacks were a bit late as he evacuated all but the static unit to Bataan. I am trying to decide whether I should finish the trapped units, or let them wither on the vine for a month or two while using the troops elsewhere. There are pros and cons to both options.


China:

China is still a big mess but the mess is being pushed inland. I figure another couple weeks until all of the lone chinese units are pushed north and then I can really concentrate on taking the rail and establishing my perimeter. I have not destroyed any chinese units yet and not sure I want to - I think just mauling them badly is better in the long run, as they will still be combat ineffective, and not get the magic regen. This will force him to waste men and supplies to grow them back into useful units.


SW Pacific:

Not much is going on here. My subs have closed down most transports between OZ and PM but I think he has gotten some troops and a bunch of supplies in before I closed it down. His subs are making it a pain to move anywhere around Truk or Rabaul - I can spot them, but its nearly impossible to attack or damage them so far.

My subs have been following what seems to be a large convoy from the US to Noumea where it has stopped and probably unloading. Since my subs won't attack it there, I have dispatched 2 CVs to deal with it from Truk. They should be attacking on the next turn (as soon as I get it back from Rob). The convoy has been at Noumea for several days while my CVs make the trip south, so I doubt I will kill any men or aircraft on the ships, but they are still probably unloading supplies. So killing merchies loaded with supplies is still worthwhile - especially if they have fuel as with Rob operating 3 US CVs from OZ he has to be low on fuel.


Notes:

I have adjusted some aircraft production - mostly Sally bombers as well as some engine production. I have also expanded a few small merchie shipyards. I am still not getting 100% of my HI to produce every turn and cannot wait for the next patch to fix the moving of resources / fuel inland to resolve this. I should be producing 14k+ HI per turn and am only getting around 13.2k to 13.5k per turn so while not a lot, 1k HI per turn over the past 90 turns does add up.

US Pacific:

Most of the 7th Inf Div is now safely off Midway and preparing for their next deployment. I now just have to get the rest of the support squads off Midway and rejoind with the parent unit and I will be good to go.


Burma:

The Imperial Guards smashed 3 allied units north of Rangoon forcing them back to Rangoon. It seems Rob is wasting supplies / men on units trapped in Rangoon as I have smashed the same units a couple times and they keep reappearing stronger than before. This is good as he is wasting reinforcements on trapped units instead of saving them them for later.

The IG Div is heading west to take the last base around Rangoon. Recon puts a small Base Force there which will be routed by the Guards. Hopefully the Base Force will simply run to Rangoon to die there with the rest.

My aircraft are bombing the runways at Rangoon almost daily to stop any fort production but I think he has level 3 or level 4 forts anyways. Once Singapore falls I will be able to smash Rangoon but probably not until then.


Recon shows Rob has evacuated from all the bases north of Rangoon except for one. Which means the oil centers at one of the bases is being destroyed by rebels [:-] We can't allow that. I have dispatched an armored unit to take the base and secure the precious oil fields.


Malaya:

The calm before the storm is almost over. I have moved most of my troops to Johore Bharu and now have enough AV support to take care of all the planes there as well. My troops will be moving against Singapore in a day or two. Although I am dreading that initial crossing.


Borneo:

My invasion force for Palembang is assembling at Pontianak and should be ready in 1 - 2 days. I have a baby CV there to support it and roughly 50 Zeroes (30+ able to be used) for LR CAP. The airfields north of Palembang have been bombed out of commission from bombers in Malaya so unless he has a lot more planes than I think or pulls a large Surface TF out from somewhere the Palembang invasion should go good. Initially recon only show 1 - 2 small combat units there.



Philippines:

My troops will be moving against Bataan in the next day or two and will mostly bombard them for a week or more and then finish them off. I could wait longer and let them die slowly but I need the troops elsewhere so I need to push the time table up.


China:

My china plans are proceeding - slowly - but they are moving forward. I just took a dot base (Tsiaotso) which will provide more resources, supplies and such. As well as capturing Chengchow. My men are slowly pushing all scattered chinese units northward, crushing them as we go.


SW Pacific:

No movement between OZ and PM and my 2 CVs sent to Noumea have had some luck. They managed to sink 4 xAKs and damage 3 xAKs and 2 APs there before heading east. Then on a hunch I bombed the port at Suva and caught several allied ships there too. I sunk 2 xAKs there and damaged a DD and another AK.

My subs south of Suva have spotted several US convoys heading west for OZ. Unfortunately my CVs have already headed back north - reports of US CVs and the lack of any torpedoes left made the decision easy for me. I am moving my subs to try to intercept these new US TFs and maybe nibble off a ship or two. They have to be carrying something good - Troops, Fuel, Aircraft, etc...

US Pacific:

My defensive build up at Midway is proceeding - with level 3 forts completed and heading towards level 4. The 7th Inf Div is gone except for some support which is being loaded now. I have loaded a Naval Guard unit at Tokyo and it will move to Midway to keep Rob from getting it back for free.

I also have some more supplies and fuel heading there as Rob got lucky and popped my Tanker delivering fuel there.


Burma:

The only thing left in southern Burma is Rangoon - I control the rest. All Allied units but 1 are hiding in Rangoon. One combat unit moved NE of the city and was hammered over the last couple days by my air power. The unit is all but dead from the bombing in open ground. The Imp Guard's Div is moving into the hex and will finish it off - or push the remnants back into Rangoon.

I have also captured one of the northern bases with a tank unit securing the oil there. Some oil fields have been damaged by rebels, but the majority is safely under control now.


Malaya:

My troops are at Singapore and have brought the forts down to level 2 while aircraft harass troops and bomb the airfield to keep the engineers from building new forts. I expect it to fall by the end of March - probably within a week.


Borneo:

My troops have launched from Pontianak and landed at Palembang and secured the vast oil fields. I got real lucky here - Rob only had 2 units stationed here and as they fled they barely damaged the oil fields or refineries. I believe I lost 7 oil and 8 refineries total. Within a week Palembang will be 100% and pumping out precious fuel for the Imperials Japanese !!


Philippines:

My troops are in Bataan exchanging shells and blood with the Allied troops there. After a couple of attacks there defenses seem to faltering. I will rest my men a day or two to lower disruption and fatigue and then make the final push.


China:

I continue to push north in China and just took another chinese base. Not much happens here quickly as it takes a while to move anywhere off the rails.


SW Pacific:


The 7th Inf Div (from Midway) is being redeployed to Tarawa and then part of it to Baker Island just to secure it against the Allies using it for Recon flights. I am planning an incursion into the southern Pacific soon but the lack of troop transport in Japan is limiting my moving of troops out of the home islands.


Currently I have a lot of Naval Guard Units (as well as Base Forces) sitting in Tokyo, but a lack of planning on my part has limited my availability of troop transports there so I am not able to move them out quickly. Most of them are slated for deployment in the South or South West Pacific.

US Pacific:

Only support squads from the 7th ID are left on Midway along with the small base force. I have more fuel / supplies arriving in a few days along with a Naval Guard Unit. I know I can't keep Midway forever, but I can definately force him to bring a sizable force to take it and cause as much damage to it as I can.


Burma:

Another day or two and my troops in Pegu will be fully returned to 100% TOE and ready to move on Rangoon. I will have roughly 1100 AV to attack with, supported by 4-6 arty units and roughly 80+ LBA bombers.

My Tank units are holding the oil fields at Wagwe (I think) and the oil and fuel are producing but not moving anywhere. I have clear rail lines to Pegu but I wonder if they are set to rail to Rangoon only. I will find out when I take the city and see if the stockpiles disappear.

I raided one of the Burmese port cities (forget the name) with my Betties and damaged 6 cargo ships - one of which sunk.


Malaya:

Singapore Falls !!! Over 49,000 allied troops are kill or captured - a total of 21 units are wiped out. Unfortunately everything there is destroyed - all facilities reduced to 1. I am moving in supply and repairing them as I can. I am concentrating on Heavy Industry and the Repair Yard at first.

Troops involved are relaxing before being sent either to Burma or Java.


Borneo:

Miri completes her size 3 port upgrade so I can move some oil / fuel out of there. It is still a slow process to load / unload fuel or oil there.

I have also landed and capture the base SE of Tarakan and am marching overland to wipe out the allied forces there. I am hoping by using the overland route I not only avoid the CD gun damage to my transport fleet, but can capture the base intact.


Philippines:

Bataan Falls !!! Same day that I take Singapore, my troops wipe the last allied resistance out of Luzon - over 53,000 men (30 units) are killed or captured. Now my units are resting for the island hoping campaign to capture the rest of the P.I.


China:

Chuhsien falls ending the last chinese held city / base in southern China. Now my troops need to push the escapees north and then begin the assault on the cities on the rail.


SW Pacific:


Baker Island is secure with more supplies being unloaded over the next couple days. I have also taken Nukufetau which will give me a clear shot at my real targets -- Savaii and Pago Pago. Taking these islands will not only hamper his SLOC but force his convoys to go further south and take longer.


DEI

My patrol aircraft have spotted what appears to be 2 allied surface groups lingering north of Australia in open waters. They both lie 4-6 hexes away from semi-important bases for me to take, so I am figuring he is leaving them there on react to hammer any uncovered invasion convoys I send. So I have moved 2 CVs from Truk and they will be closing on them. I expect contact with the 2 groups on the 29th - 2 days - providing they stay where I see them. I will move the CVs within torp range and let them fly.


Economy

Overall I am keeping about a 2 days surplus of resources in Japan and its very hard to increase it but I am trying. I am enlarging ports as fast as I can and dedicating more shipping to the task. I am shipping resources / oil in and shipping supplies, men and aircraft out.

US Pacific:

I have landed my Naval Guard unit and a bunch of supplies. My ships are now unloading some fuel for future supply runs and subs. Midway seems to have attracted a ton of enemy subs and I have spotted anywhere between 3-10 enemy subs - now some may be transitioning to Japan and back but that is still a lot of subs.


Burma:

I have begun the assault on Rangoon. I have over 1100 AS and have so far knocked the forts down to level 2 - but that caused a lot of disruption and my troops are resting at the moment. My bombers seem to be helping in both keeping the forts from growing and suppressing enemy units during attacks.

Recon shows at least 1 unit heading west from Rangoon into the swamplands to the west. I figure he is trying to get some small units - maybe base forces out before I capture them all.


Malaya:

Singapore has repaired all the base damage and is slowly repairing the Shipyard and Heavy Industry there - supplies are low at the moment and I have a couple convoys from Japan coming in.

Troopships have also arrived in Singapore and combat troops will begin shipping out over the next couple days.


Borneo:

I am moving a Port Unit from the Home Islands to Miri to help load ships in the port. its the only way I can think of to increase the loading rate of such a crappy port.

My troops are attacking Tarakan and hope to take it over the next turn or two.


Philippines:

Cagayan falls and the two large islands are mine. I have troopships arriving in Manila t pick up troops to take the smaller islands and then head south to support the operations in the South / South-West Pacific.


China:

Not much is happening here. I am still chasing a few chinese units out of my interior and trying to prepare them for the assaults on the railway bases.


SW Pacific:


I spotted the 3 US CVs near Baker Island almost a week ago but have not seen them since. They ignored a supply convoy there so my guess he was sending them somewhere in a hurry. Perhaps Hawaii to support an assault on Midway ?? or is it time for US CVs to get upgraded ? These 3 ships (and their escorts) have been at sea almost constantly since Dec 7th, so they have to have accumulated some sys damage as well. Maybe its time to repair his offensive arm ?


DEI

My CVs only attacked 1 of the 2 surface groups which actually ended up being the 2 UK Carriers and their escorts. I pounded the Indomitable and Hermes with 250 kg bombs to little effect but also at least 3 torp hits were reported on both ships, along with some escort damage.

The next day I hit the Indomitable with more bombs but she continued away under LBA - I was out of torps and didn't want to follow so I ordered my CVs back, but had flooded the area with subs.

One sub caught the CL Dauntless and put 3 torps into her sinking her. Another sub found Hermes and finished her off as well with a couple torps. So far the Indomitable escaped but she has to be heavily damaged - best Rob can do is slowly repair her in Northern OZ and then send her to a real shipyard for some heavy work - either way she is out of the picture for a while.

Wow !! Its been nearly 2 months since I last posted. The game continues at a slow pace -- entirely my fault but I can barely find time to do more than 1 turn an evening. We are now in mid may and still fighting - but turns between major fighting are growing longer as we slowly approach the phase where we both sit back and wait... US Pacific:

All of my real forces have been withdrawn from Midway, leaving a small Base Force, with a small detachment of the 7th Inf Div. I am surprised he has not taken the island back - he does have 4 CVs and last intel put them all in US waters - probably at PH repairing or refitting

US North Pacific

I have landed troops at Adak Island and am attacking this turn - I hope to take the island. I have no real plans for the island chain, but just want Rob to be split between multiple problems. The more I can give him to think about, the more he has to spread his forces thin to protect.

Burma:

Southern Burma is all mine, including the oil fields at Magwe. I am chasing the remnants from Rangoon north along the coast while my bombers hit them almost daily. The allied forces have to be heavily disrupted and low on supplies, but they keep escaping me. Its much harder to encircle units in AE than WitP was.

Once I have these remnants chased down I will move north and take the rest of the rail lines in Burma. It does not appear to be heavily defended but we will see.


Malaya:

Malaya is all mine and preparing defenses and repairing damages. Singapore's Heavy Industry is fully repaired (what is left) and I have expanded Georgetown's HI to 12 from the initial 6. The repair yard at Singapore is also being repaired and will probably be repaired all the way back to 50 - but I'm not sure on that yet. The Resources and LI will probably not be touched.


Borneo:

Eastern Borneo is mine. Tarakan and the base next to it is mine and I am slowly shipping fuel from there to Manilla for cross shipment elsewhere.

Allied air units in the area are stopping me from advancing further south until the repairs and upgrades for my DDs are complete in Manilla harbor. Roughly 10 more days until all of my DDs are ready to escort my 2 CVs there south allowing me to take more bases.


Philippines:

Luzan is all mine as is the southern island. I have all but 1 of the unoccupied bases captured and have landed on one of the islands with resistance. I am moving division sized units from Manilla to take these last few bases.


China:

I want a minimum of a level 3 Fort in any base I expect to fight over in the future and at least a level 4 in important bases. I am striving for higher levels in more important bases like Pegu, Rangoon, etc...


US Pacific:

It has been quiet for a while here. I have no ships in the area and only minimal forces on Midway now. I am surprised his CVs havent at least come by for a few bombing runs.


US North Pacific

I still have not taken Adak Island and its upsetting me. My troops don't seem to be facing any real resistance, but just can't manage any odds. I am replacing the leader and giving them a few more days rest before trying again.


Burma:

I am still chasing down the Rangoon remnants but have caught both groups. The southern group I am sure I can kill off - I have them surrounded but the northern group will probably escape.


Malaya:

Not much to report here - just building forts and moving troops and supplies around.


Borneo:

I am anxiously awaiting the return of several escort DDs that are finishing repairs / upgrades in Manilla to escort my CVs into this area so I can capture the rest of it.

All is quiet on this front at well although sub activity around Kwajalein has picked up about 500%. I am moving troops, airplanes and subs around to cover possible avenues of attack in case the sub activity is an indicator of Rob's intentions.

Last turn one of my subs about 700 miles east of Kwajalein detected some allied fighters. if this report is even fairly accurate it would mean Rob has CVs in the area as the allies have no other way to have single engine aircraft out this far. Hmm.. wondering if he is planning a raid on Kwajalein?

We interrupt your regularly schedule AAR for important war newscast...

US Carriers sighted east of Kwajalein Island. Small air battles have been fought with what intelligence is calling 3 or 4 US Carriers. Experts are arguing over whether this is just a Carrier Raid or a full bore invasion fleet. Either way, resources are being moved to hammer the fleet should they invade.

We will keep you updated as Imperial forces move to smash the US Fleet.

NEWS UPDATE

Looks like the Americans are going for Maloelap Island.

US Naval ships appeared on the horizon this morning and moved towards the island. Unfortunately for the Americans, the Imperial Japanese Navy had recently gone on a program of mining these outlaying islands to improve their defensive strength and the Americans plowed right into the minefields. Intel reports 1 CL, 1 DD and 2 xAKs hit mines and limped away heavily damaged.

The US Amphibious TF passed through the minefield and encountered heavy defensive CD Gun fire from the Naval Fort there. The 12 & 15 cm CD Guns played havoc up and down the US lines, hammering the escorting warships and forcing the TF to retreat before landing any troops [:D] (Never seen that happen before but I like it) Lookouts report the following US ships heavily damaged and limping away engulfed in flames:

US Carriers struck a port raid at Kwajalein Island sinking an AMC and damaging a PB already in port for repairs. Neither ship was evacuated with the rest due to their slow speed. LR Cap provided from nearby Roi-Namur consisted of a few Claudes but the US Naval Bombers passed right through them like they weren't there - only a couple US Bombers were shot down -- but no fighters were flying escort. Intelligence estimates that US CV fighters are holding back to protect their carriers from Japanese Air Attack.

As dusk approaches the tiny island of Maloelap no enemy troops have successfully landed and Imperials Naval and Air forces prepare their counter-attacks...

THE FACTS NOW

Looks like Rob is after Maloelap - which is surprising due to the sizable Naval Fort there - perhaps he doesn't know about it - but their CD guns clobbered his warships in his invasion TF. I'm sure he has more (as many as 6 TFs have been spotted besides the CV TF). But it may give him pause -- all I need is a couple days and I will smash his forces.

His warships have to be either low on fuel or there are some very vulnerable AOs around.

I am moving 6+ subs into position between Maloelap and US islands - they will be used to pick off damaged survivors. I am also sending 2 CVs from Tokyp (were waiting for their June upgrades) at high speed into the gap behind his forces to catch lingering survivors or whatever I can catch.

I am also sending AKEs from Truk into the area to rearm / resupply my CV TF in the area -- they are coverging at Nauru Island -- it should be far enough away from the action to serve as a resupply base for my CVs.

I am fearful to commit my 2CVs & 1 CVL against his 3-4 CVs especially since my initial attack of 1 wing of Kates was completely wiped out. I think it is time to unleash my Netties from Roi-Nomur. I am kind of saving them to strike at his invasion TFs as they may lack serious CAP - especially if he is keeping it all over his CVs.

Either way it will be an exciting next week or so - but even if Rob takes Maloelap I have the 7th Inf Division sitting at Tarawa with enough firepower to smash anything he leaves behind when he pulls back his naval forces - which he has to do or leave them there low on ammo and fuel - which I will then just kill with air power.

A classic lesson in inadequate preparation. I'm especially impressed by the damage to Vincennes -- she's got a fair amount of armor.

Did you have that particular place heavily fortified, or have you been working on all the islands in the area?

I don't think it is heavily fortified even now - I wish I had more men there -- it will hold 6k troops and I only have like 3500 there. Basically I did very little from the beginning to the island other than build some forts and just over the past couple weeks of game time (maybe a month) I decided that area was weak and moved a piece of the 7th Inf Div there and mined it (200+ mines). I also mined the other islands, but have not moved any troops there due to lack of troops in this theater.

I was very surprised when the Naval Fort hammered into the Vincennes myself - but then I saw they were 10-12cm guns - those will leave a few marks. There were lots of armor hits - belt, tower, etc... I don't think those ships will sink (well maybe the DDs) but they have to be high system and high fire from the beating they took. Most of them took 50+ hits from those guns. Best part is only 1 gun (a DP at that) was even damaged in their return salvos.

Now Intel shows a bunch of BBs there (and I'm sure he has some) so the defenses will probably get hammered by them next turn so we will see. Somehow I don't think they CD Guns will perform as good against the BBs.

Its been several days and the invasion has not happened - it appears he has turned his invasion force around and is heading SE - perhaps to Canton but hard to say. His CVs cruised around a bit looking for easy kills, but I had evacuated everything that I could beforehand and no easy targets were found. He caught me with only 2 CVs & a CVL in the area and after the failed attack that cost me an entire Kate squadron from 1 CV I was not interested in meeting him headon. I sent another 2 CVs from the Home Islands south to help, but with him leaving I have sent the CVs back to port for their June upgrades - which they will be available for as soon as they dock back up.

I will post more tonight or tomorrow and get everything caught up.
