baseballfan5 -> Baserunning frustrations (8/10/2009 8:58:58 PM)

I am still frustrated by the baserunning in this most excellent game. Perhaps I am taking the text too literally but my players take a station-to-station approach WAY TOO MUCH. Examples: A SP 71 on second with two outs and a "single through the hole"...and he stops at third? I get thrown out from 328ft. by an average arm using an above-average runner? Somebody gets thrown out taking an extra base that I did not instruct them to take? I find what happens on the base paths rather capricious. Take a look at the late-July Sports Illustrated issue that discusses baserunning. (Look, for example, how often Chase Utley takes the extra base.) Think about Matt Holliday, he goes from first to third 40-percent of the time on a single (no one does that in Puresim--not even the fastest (he also scores from second on a single 70 percent of the time and scores on a double 57 percent of the time.) Here are my suggestion: --Give much more control to the manager. In a real game the third base coach (and the player) have a ton of info. (position of the defense, trajectory of the ball, jump of the runner, etc.); since this cannot be "simulated" let the manager know the chance he has for success when taking the extra base. This is very similar to a lot of the old board simulation games. You could make it so that no one ever takes an extra base without "permission."
