The notes for WitPStaff say that the range that you set your search planes for does not matter in determining the chance of finding TFs, only the number of planes counts. Is this true? I always thought that setting the search planes for a shorter range meant that they had less area to search and resulted in a better search coverage,

Yes it does, increase the chance of spoting, the more planes you have searching of course helps to.

Dection at longer ranges is also not so good, eschinaly beyond 12 to 14 hexes your likely not going to get a spoting from the point of orgine thats good enough to actualy triger an atack, you will see the enemy TF on the map though.
