BigDuke66 -> Change the sequenz in the OOB? (8/20/2009 8:24:22 PM)

Is there a way to change the sequenz in the Order of Battle?
I mean just simply to move a formation to an other point in the OOB.

Sure. "Cut Current Formation" on the Edit pulldown, followed by "Paste Formation".

Yes but then the units in it show up with an extra "+" at the end of there name, that isn't a big problem but the deployment for them is erased.
Isn't there a way to cut & paste without changing anything except the position of the formation in the OOB?

You can cut/paste each of the units separately to a neighbouring formation and then change their formation. If the initial formation disappear from OOB becouse you cut its last unit, the next created formation should have its name and all other characteristics.

You can also try the F4/F5 thing. But you've really got to know what you're doing.

You also need to check the event list any time you make an oob change. Events that affect formations and/or units may get knocked out of sequence. Some scenarios have the affected unit/formation name in the news string so that corrections, if needed, can be made. Some do not have these news strings and it is then impossible to know what is which, or which is what.

Yeah. For that reason, I tend to label events that don't have a news string attached 'debug 21 Pz. appears' or whatever. That makes it a lot easier to go through and make repairs after altering the OOB. 'Debug' will keep the news string from appearing in play.

Why the hell does an event change if I just "relocate" formations and their units?

Probably because the event engine is referring to a slot in the program rather than the named formation.

Anyway, it does. That's just the way it is. If you've got a long event list, changes in either the number of formations or the number of units aren't to be undertaken lightly. In fact, once I'm well into a scenario, I rarely delete a unit or scenario. I just rename it with an asterisk and undeploy it (idea originated with Ben Turner). Aside from avoiding problems now, if I subsequently want to add units or formations, I can do so without wrecking the event list again.

Theoretically, this has been fixed. See item 35 in the v3.0.0.12 section of the "What's New.rtf" file.

But, I wouldn't blindly count on it. If I changed or deleted/added to the OOB, I'd definitely check the event list.

Not that I'm especially upset, but if you're referring to an already issued patch, either I'm missing it or it hasn't been fixed. I just added some bits and bobs to an OOB for a scenario. Went ahead and combed through the events list, noting and fixing the usual shifts.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Change the sequenz in the OOB? (8/25/2009 1:02:29 AM)

I recently deleted a formation, and moved its individual units into several other formations. Here's a small glimpse of what I ended up with:

Curtis Lemay -> RE: Change the sequenz in the OOB? (8/25/2009 3:50:10 AM)

It looks like all it handles is changes to the units only. If you muck with the formations, you're screwed. But you can delete or add units and events for units down the OOB list remain correct, so long as the formations are unchanged.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Change the sequenz in the OOB? (8/25/2009 8:24:25 PM)

And heaven help you if you accidentally mouse click in the gray area where no data entry is allowed. You end up 'inserting a copy' of the event, with no way to delete it (which moves all the events below it out of line). Best to save the scenario after each move you make in the editor. I think this feature and the two sort buttons at the bottom of the event window should be removed, they make editing similar to free style cliff climbing (is that what they call it when you scale a cliff with no rope?). Or maybe I'm such a rookie that I don't understand the usefullness of these features.

Cheers!

I don't merely save, but keep a running 'stack' of past versions of the scenario that I can revert to if need be. 'Seelowe 11-27-07, Seelowe 12-14-07...' Anytime I've made significant changes, I save it as a new version.
