I saw where you tweeted (sp?) that you were working on getting TOW working on OS X? Is this for real? If so, this is AWESOME news!

True :)

True :)

Is there any chance we will see ToW working under linux then too?

Theoretically it is possible, but first we have to conduct a feasibility study and especially take into account economical aspects.

It'd be great... and technically speaking OSX port should be pretty close to Linux-compatible code.

I know there is WINE, which allow a Linux machine to run Windows applications/games. A lot of gamers are using it, but I did never tried it myself.

WINE is great, but... it is actually hard to maintain proper support under wine, each patch may easily break it, on both sides i.e. WINE and the game's. And so far my attempts to run ToW under WINE were not successful. Coincidently, WINE is not just for Linux, it works on MacOS too.

Regarding WINE and Mac OS X:

Available version of Wine for Mac OS X is not able to run ToW - we had to apply several significant modifications to it's (wine) source code, so it is, if not impossible, extremely difficult to run ToW using wine on MacOS X.

are you going to push your patches upstream so that they become a part of wine? If not, then will you publish them somewhere? Perhaps these changes will allow the game to run under wine in linux too...

Kurak -> RE: Is it true about OS X? (8/25/2009 8:13:35 PM)

These patches would make other games/programs stop working under wine, they're rather low-level hacks to make ToW work. OTOH MacOS X version of ToW will not break anything (so if somebody uses wine under OS X to run other programs there is no need to modify it, modded wine will exist only for ToW).

Regarding Linux, wine should be able to run ToW without source code modifications (under linux, osx is much more complicated :( ), just remove movies from ToW data directory. Nevertheless, we can give no warranty for ToW under Linux :)

I think from what I remember there were some errors looking for serial file... will double check that. Anyway, I'll try to remove movies too.

jzedward -> RE: Is it true about OS X? (9/10/2009 10:31:20 AM)

I'm interested in beta testing if it's available; I run ToW under VMware Fusion using Unity (v nice) but would like a native version

Thanks
John
